Archibald Primrose, 1st Laird Of Burnbrae
Laird of Burnbrae was a hereditary title in Scotland that was held by several generations in the Clan Primrose, Primrose family. The Lands of Burnbrae was situated near Kincardine, Fife, Kincardine, and has since been joined with Kincardine. The book, Culross and Tulliallan, states that the Lands of Burnbrae were previously held by the Blaw family until it was passed on to the Primrose family when Margaret Blaw married Archibald Primrose, who then became the first proprietor of that name to hold the lands of Burnbrae. The Primrose family held the title to the Lands of Burnbrae for over two hundred years until it became incorporated with the Tulliallan estate. The Lairds of Burnbrae resided in Tulliallan, Perthshire#Boundaries, formerly in Perthshire, Scotland although in some early sources Tulliallan is cited as part of Fife, where it currently lies. Sir Archibald Primrose, 1st Baronet, Lord Carrington (16 May 1616 – 27 November 1679) was a notable Scotland, Scottish lawyer, judge, and Cavalier. Early life The eldest son of James Primrose (Clerk of the Privy Council of Scotland), James Primrose (d. 1641), a writer and solicitor, by his second, or third, wife Catherine Lawson, a daughter of Richard Lawson of Boghall. Primrose succeeded his father, who had held the office for upwards of forty years, as Clerk to the Privy Council of Scotland, Privy Council on 2 September 1641. Career Following the victory of Kilsyth he joined James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose, Montrose, was taken prisoner at battle of Philiphaugh, Philiphaugh on 13 September 1645. He was tried by the Parliament of St. Andrews the following year, and being found guilty of treason only saved his life through the intercession of the Marquess of Argyll. Viscount Of Primrose
Viscount of Primrose was a title in the Peerage of Scotland. It was created in 1703 for Sir James Primrose, 3rd Baronet, along with the subsidiary title Lord Primrose and Castlefield. He was the grandson of Archibald Primrose, a Lord of Session under the title Lord Carrington, who in 1651 was created a Baronet, of Carrington in the County of Selkirk, in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia. The peerages became extinct on the death of the third Viscount in 1741. However, the baronetcy was passed on to the late Viscount's cousin James Primrose, 2nd Earl of Rosebery, who became the fifth Baronet of Carrington. Archibald John Primrose, 4th Earl of Rosebery, (14 October 1783 – 4 March 1868), styled Viscount Primrose until 1814, was a British politician. Early life Primrose was born on 14 October 1783. Archibald Philip Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery, 1st Earl of Midlothian (7 May 1847 – 21 May 1929) was a British Liberal Party politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from March 1894 to June 1895. Between the death of his father in 1851, and the death of his grandfather, the 4th Earl of Rosebery, in 1868, he was known by the courtesy title of Lord Dalmeny. Rosebery first came to national attention in 1879 by sponsoring the successful Midlothian campaign of William Ewart Gladstone. His most successful performance in office came as chairman of the London County Council in 1889. He entered the Cabinet in 1885 and was twice Foreign Secretary, paying special attention to French and German affairs. Archibald Primrose, Lord Dalmeny
Archibald Primrose, Lord Dalmeny (2 October 1809 – 23 January 1851), was a British Whig politician. Early life He was the eldest son and heir apparent of Archibald Primrose, 4th Earl of Rosebery (1783–1868), whom he predeceased, by his wife Harriett Bouverie. Dalmeny was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge. Career Dalmeny was a supporter of the Reform Act 1832, and became a Member of Parliament for Stirling Burghs in the elections held that year after the passage of the bill. From 25 April 1835 until the fall of Melbourne's Second Government in 1841, Dalmeny was a Civil Lord of the Admiralty. In Parliament, he opposed both the secret ballot and the income tax. He did not contest the seat in 1847, and left Parliament.
