Archery At The 2016 Summer Olympics
The archery events at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were held over a seven-day period from 6 to 12 August. Four events took place, all were staged at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí. Competition format A total of 128 athletes, 64 women and 64 men, competed across the four events: the men's individual, women's individual, men's team and women's team. All four events were recurve archery events, held under the World Archery-approved 70-meter distance and rules. The competition started with an initial ranking round involving all 64 archers of each gender. Each archer would shoot a total of 72 arrows to be seeded from 1–64 according to their score. The ranking round was also used to seed the teams from 1 to 12, by aggregating the individual scores for the members of each team. Sambadrome Marquês De Sapucaí
The Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí is a purpose-built parade area built for the Rio Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The venue is also known as Passarela Professor Darcy Ribeiro or simply the Sambódromo in Portuguese or Sambadrome in English. It is located in the downtown area of Cidade Nova in Rio de Janeiro, and is the place where samba schools parade competitively each year during the Rio Carnival. The parades attract many thousands of Brazilians and foreign tourists each year, and the structure is also used as a multi-purpose performance venue. The structures of the Sambadrome were designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer (1907–2012), and represent his first major work after the end of the Brazilian dictatorship of 1964–1985. Brady Ellison
Brady Ellison (born October 27, 1988) is an American archer who competes in recurve archery. He holds the record for the longest continuous period as the world number-one-ranked men's recurve archer, from August 2011 to April 2013. He earned his nickname "The Prospector" during the 2015 world championships due to his proclivity for 'finding gold'. Personal life As a child, Ellison suffered from Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease and wore leg braces for some time. He has had subsequent health issues with his knees, particularly in the lead-up to and during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and the fingers of his drawing hand. Ksenia Vitalyevna Perova ( rus, Ксения Витальевна Перова, , ˈksʲenʲɪɪ̯ə pʲɪˈrovə; born 8 February 1989 in Lesnoy, Sverdlovsk Oblast) is a Russian archer. Tuyana Norpolovna Dashidorzhieva (; born 14 April 1996) is a Russian competitive archer of Buryat ethnicity. She helped her compatriots and experienced Olympians Ksenia Perova and Inna Stepanova secure a historic team recurve title at the 2015 World Championships in Copenhagen, a silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and a bronze at the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, completing a full set of medals throughout her sporting career in a major international competition. Choi Mi-sun (; born 1 July 1996) is a South Korean recurve archer. She won gold medal in the women's team event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Ki Bo-bae (; or ; born February 20, 1988) is a South Korean recurve bow, recurve Archery, archer and three-time Olympic gold medalist. Lisa Unruh (born 12 April 1988) is a German athlete who competes in recurve archery. Unruh represented Germany at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro winning the silver medal. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Chang was the Olympic champion in both the women's individual and women's team events at 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Taylor Worth (born 8 January 1991) is an Australian archer competing in recurve events. He won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the men's team event, a gold medal at the United States Open and at the 2008 World Youth Archery Championships in the under-18 men's team recurve event. Ryan Tyack (born 2 June 1991) is an Australian archer competing in men's recurve events at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He earned a gold medal at the 2006 Junior World Outdoor Target Championships in the male recurve cadet event. Alec Potts (born 9 February 1996) is an Australian competitive archer. He won a bronze medal in the men's team recurve at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Jake Kaminski (born August 11, 1988) is an American archer. Personal life Kaminski was born in Buffalo, New York and grew up in Elma, New York. As of August 2016, he resides in Gainesville, Florida.
