Arcade Building (Toronto)
The Arcade Building is a ten-storey office building with ground-floor retail in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is known for the colourful LED lighting that has adorned its facade since 2008. The site was previously an indoor shopping Arcade (architecture), arcade. Opened in 1960, the building is located at 137 Yonge Street at Temperance Street and extends eastward to 74 Victoria Street at Lombard Street. The upper floors are commercial office space. The first floor originally had an arcade-style retail concourse but this was closed in 2008 and the main floor was redeveloped as a GoodLife Fitness centre and office space. The outer facade is steel and glass in the internationalist style. The Arcade Building is a historic building at 1 Riverside Road in Riverside, Illinois. The building was built in 1871 as Riverside's first commercial building; its first floor housed storefronts, while its upper floors were used as residential and office space. Riverside was developed as a planned community in the late 1860s, and the Arcade Building was part of its original plan; it both provided basic services to the village's early residents and served as a focal point of its downtown. Architect Frederick C. Withers designed the Victorian Gothic building, which features brick arches over its windows, four dormers projecting from the roof, and towers atop the entrance and at each corner. The Arcade Building is a historic commercial building at 314–320A Harvard Street in Brookline, Massachusetts. Built in 1926, it is a two-story cast stone structure, with an interior arcade lined by small shops. It is the only arcaded commercial building in Brookline. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Description and history The Arcade Building is located on the south side of Harvard Street, a major north–south route through eastern Brookline. It is on the west side of Coolidge Corner, one of the town's major retail areas. It is a two-story commercial structure, built out of concrete and cast stone. The front facade is topped by a precast concrete frieze, with Gothic spires above at the bounds of the building's five bays. The interior of the building consists of a long two-story skylit atrium that is flanked by small shops on two levels. The interior retains many of its original features and fixtures. The Grove Arcade, also known as the Arcade Building, is a historic commercial and residential building in Asheville, North Carolina, in its downtown historic district. It was built from 1926 to 1929, and is a Tudor Revival and Late Gothic Revival style building consisting of two stacked blocks. The lower block is a rectangular slab with rounded corners; it is capped by the second block, a two-tier set-back story. The steel frame and reinforced concrete building was designed to serve as a base for an unbuilt skyscraper. It features a roof deck with a bronze semi-elliptical balcony, molded terra cotta pilasters, and a ziggurat-like arrangement of huge ramps to the roof deck. The Westminster Arcade (also known as the Providence Arcade, Arcade Providence, or The Arcade) is a historic shopping center at 130 Westminster Street and 65 Weybosset Street in downtown Providence, Rhode Island erected in 1828. It is notable as the first enclosed shopping mall in the United States and has been lauded as a fine example of commercial Greek Revival architecture. It served as a shopping center for many years before falling into decline in the late 20th century. It has since been closed for renovation and rehabilitation several times, and most recently reopened its doors in October 2013 as a residential and commercial mixed-use building.
