Araneta Family
The Araneta family is a Filipino people, Filipino family that originated from Gipuzkoa, the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque region of northern Spain. The name is derived from the Basque language, Basque word ''aran'' meaning "valley", with the suffix ''-eta'' meaning "abundance of", but also a locative term denoting place. In this case, the Araneta name means "the family that comes from the valley". Origins In 1723, during the Manila galleon, Galleon trade, two brothers named Baltazar de Araneta and Don Jose de Araneta arrived in Manila aboard the Spanish fleet ''La Sacra Familia''. They came from the Basque region of Spain by way of Acapulco, Mexico. However, this was not conclusive as some members of the family disputed that the two are not brothers. The Araneta Coliseum, also currently known by naming rights sponsorship as Smart Araneta Coliseum, is an indoor multi-purpose arena, sports arena that is part of the Araneta City in the Quezon City#Cubao, Cubao area of Quezon City, Philippines. Nicknamed "the Big Dome", it is one of the largest indoor arenas in Asia, and one of the largest clear span domes in the world. De La Salle Araneta University
De La Salle Araneta University, also referred to by its acronym (Araneta U or DLSAU), is a private Catholic Lasallian co-educational basic and higher education institution supervised by the Philippine District of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in Malabon, Metro Manila, Philippines. It was established in 1946 in Bulacan and named ''Araneta Institute of Agriculture.'' It was then transferred to Malabon the year after. In 1978 it was renamed the ''Gregorio Araneta University Foundation''. Integration of the university with the DLS System started in 1987 until 2002 when it officially became a member of the system.
