''Aquilegia atrata'', the dark columbine, is a Perennial plant, perennial species of flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae, native to the Alps and Apennine Mountains. Description As the common name suggests, the species typically, but not always, has dark flowers, either brown, purple or wine-colored. At around in height, it is smaller than the similar, but more widespread species ''Aquilegia vulgaris'', with stamens protruding further from the flower. Taxonomy The specific name ''atrata'' is Latin for "blackened" or "darkened", referring to the dark-coloured flowers. It is a currently accepted species in the ''Aquilegia vulgaris'' complex, but is not genetically distinguishable from the other members of the complex. Wilhelm Daniel Joseph Koch
Wilhelm Daniel Joseph Koch (5 March 1771 – 14 November 1849) was a German physician and botanist from Kusel, which at various points in his life was under the Holy Roman Empire, part of France and then part of the Kingdom of Bavaria. Education Koch studied medicine at the Universities of University of Jena, Jena and University of Marburg, Marburg, and afterwards was a ''City physician, Stadtphysicus'' (state physician) in Trarbach. He then took the same position at Kaiserslautern in 1798, which would come under French control and then move to Bavarian control as did his home city. In 1824 he became a professor of medicine and botany at the University of Erlangen, where he stayed for the remainder of his life. At Erlangen, he was also director of the botanical gardens. In 1833, he was elected a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Death Koch died in Erlangen. ''Cnephasia'' is a genus of tortrix moths (family Tortricidae). It belongs to the subfamily Tortricinae and therein to the tribe Cnephasiini, of which it is the type genus. Taxonomy and systematics The type species around which ''Cnephasia'' was established by J. Curtis in 1826 (in the explanations to plate 100 of his ''British Entomology'') was claimed to be "'' Tortrix logiana''". However, this was a misidentification; the name of ''T. logiana'' (described by C.A. Clerck in 1759 and nowadays called '' Acleris logiana'') was until the early 20th century frequently applied to related species in error. Curtis simply repeated the mistake of A.H. Canton of Obwalden or Obwald ( ; ; ; ) is one of the Canton of Switzerland, 26 cantons forming the Switzerland, Swiss Confederation.
