Aquae In Byzacena
The Diocese of Aquensis in Byzacena is a home suppressed and titular see of the Roman Catholic Church. The diocese was centered on Aquensis a civitas of the Roman province of Byzacena, which is tentatively identified with El Hamma in modern Tunisia. Mesnage, attributes two bishops: *Gennaro, who took part at the Council of Cabarsussi in 393, made up of bishops Maximianus, Donatist sect; *Crescente, that Victor of Vita, in his history of the persecution of the Vandals, calls ''metropolitanus Aquitanae civitatis. Crescente name appears in the Roman martyrology on 28 November. However, Morcelli, identifies only one bishop of this diocese – Vittoriano, who participated for the Catholic side, in the Council of Carthage (411). Victor Vitensis (or Victor of Vita; born circa 430) was an African bishop of the Province of Byzacena (called Vitensis from his See of Vita). His importance rests on his ''Historia persecutionis Africanae Provinciae, temporibus Genserici et Hunirici regum Wandalorum'' (''A History of the African Province Persecution, in the Times of Genseric and Huneric, the Kings of the Vandals''). Life Little is known of the author or his circumstances and so historians have put forward deductions based on the internal evidence of his work. It has been argued by John Moorhead that Victor wrote the ''Historia persecutionis'' whilst he was a priest in Carthage and that he 'had access to the archives of the See of Carthage'. Cabarsussi was an ancient civitas (municipality) and bishopric in the Roman province of Byzacena (Roman North Africa), that is tentatively identifiable with ruins at Drâa-Bellouan in modern Tunisia. Titular See
A titular see in various churches is an episcopal see of a former diocese that no longer functions, sometimes called a "dead diocese".
