Aquaculture Advisory Committee
The Aquaculture Advisory Committee (AAC) was established by the Government of South Australia to support the development of the aquaculture sector in the state- the birthplace of Southern bluefin tuna ranching. Its role was to provide relevant advice to the Minister regarding the administration of the ''Aquaculture Act 2001'', related policies, proposals, regulations and any amendments to them. Aquaculture (less commonly spelled aquiculture), also known as aquafarming, is the controlled cultivation ("farming") of aquatic organisms such as fish, crustaceans, mollusks, algae and other organisms of value such as aquatic plants (e.g. lotus). Southern Bluefin Tuna
The southern bluefin tuna (''Thunnus maccoyii'') is a tuna of the family Scombridae found in open southern Hemisphere waters of all the world's oceans mainly between 30°S and 50°S, to nearly 60°S. At up to and weighing up to , it is among the larger bony fishes. Southern bluefin tuna, like other pelagic tuna species, are part of a group of bony fishes that can maintain their body core temperature up to above the ambient temperature. This advantage enables them to maintain high metabolic output for predation and migrating large distances. The southern bluefin tuna is an opportunistic feeder, preying on a wide variety of fish, crustaceans, cephalopods, salps, and other marine animals. Gail Gago
Gail Elizabeth Gago (; born 4 July 1957) is a retired Australian politician, and a member of the Labor Party in the South Australian Legislative Council from the 2002 election until her retirement in 2018. Background Gago was born in Mooroopna, Victoria, and completed her secondary education at Shepparton High School. After high school, Gago studied at Phillip Institute of Technology and the Austin Hospital where she graduated as a registered nurse, later completing a Bachelor of Science (Honours) at Monash University, majoring in psychology. Brian Jeffriess is the primary spokesperson for Australia's Southern bluefin tuna fishing and aquaculture industry. He lives in Port Lincoln, South Australia and is the chief executive for the Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association (formerly known as the Tuna Boat Owners Association). Dr Hagen Heinz Stehr AO (born 1941) is a German-born multi-millionaire businessman, tuna fisherman and founder of the Stehr Group. Anthony Cheshire is a scientist and academic living and working in South Australia. Over his professional career he has served as the Head, Department of Botany in the University of Adelaide (1994-1998), as the Chief Scientist of SARDI (South Australian Research and Development Institute) Aquatic Sciences division (2000-2004) and as Director Research and Development of SARDI (2005).
