April 1976 Gush Emunim March Through The West Bank
In April 1976, the far-right Israeli ultranationalist movement Gush Emunim held a two-day march through the occupied Palestinian West Bank. 20,000 Gush Emunim supporters participated in the march, proclaiming their right to settle in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The march triggered counter-protests by Palestinians, during which one Palestinian was killed by the Israeli military. Gush Emunim
Gush Emunim (, lit. "Bloc of the Faithful") was an Israeli ultranationalist religious Zionist Orthodox Jewish right-wing fundamentalist activist movement committed to establishing Jewish settlements in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and the Golan Heights. Gush Emunim, as of 2010, had never been formally disbanded, but it has nevertheless officially ceased to exist. 1976 West Bank Local Elections
Local elections were held in the West Bank on 12 April 1976, on the order of Israeli military authorities and under the 1955 Jordanian municipal elections law. Beit El
Beit El or Beth El () is an Israeli settlement and local council (Israel), local council located in the Binyamin Region of the West Bank. The Orthodox Judaism, Orthodox Jewish town was settled in 1977–78 by the ultranationalist group Gush Emunim. Jericho
Jericho ( ; , ) is a city in the West Bank, Palestine, and the capital of the Jericho Governorate. Shlomo Rosen
Shlomo Rosen (; 21 June 1905 – 7 December 1985) was an Israeli politician and minister. Born in Moravská Ostrava in Austria-Hungary (now in the Czech Republic), Rosen emigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1926. He joined kibbutz Sarid the following year. Between 1933 and 1935 he returned to Ostrava to serve as an emissary for Hashomer Hatzair. After returning home, he worked for the Kibbutz Artzi movement, later serving as its secretary. In the 1965 elections he was voted into the Knesset on Mapam's list. After Mapam merged into the Alignment, he was re-elected in 1969. Victor Shem-Tov
Victor Shem-Tov (; ; 1 February 1915 – 8 March 2014) was an Israeli politician who held several ministerial portfolios in the late 1960s and 1970s. Biography Born in Bulgaria to a family of Samokov goldsmiths, Shem-Tov mostly lived in the capital Sofia and was a member of the Maccabi youth movement. He emigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1939, the same year in which he joined Hashomer Hatzair. He became a member of the Jerusalem Workers' Council in 1946, and was chairman of the Bulgarian Immigrants Association between 1949 and 1950. In 1961 he served on the Histadrut's actions committee. Yitzhak Rabin
Yitzhak Rabin (; , ; 1 March 1922 – 4 November 1995) was an Israeli politician, statesman and general. He was the prime minister of Israel, serving two terms in office, 1974–1977, and from 1992 until Assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, his assassination in 1995.
