''April'' ( ka, აპრილი, tr) is a 2024 drama film written and directed by Déa Kulumbegashvili. It stars Ia Sukhitashvili, Kakha Kintsurashvili and Merab Ninidze. The film had its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize. Déa Kulumbegashvili
Déa Kulumbegashvili is a Georgian film director and writer, of Ossetian origin. She is known for her 2020 film ''Beginning'', which won and was nominated for numerous awards. Kulumbegashvili was born in Oriol, Russia (Oryol), and raised in a small town called Lagodekhi at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia. Her filmmaking has been informed by her experience of growing up in a place with such a mix of ethnicities and nationalities. She went to New York, where she enrolled in the Media Studies course at The New School, before earning a Master of Fine Arts in Film Directing at Columbia University School of the Arts, where she enrolled in 2014. Kulumbegashvili's debut short film, ''Ukhilavi Sivrtseebi'' (''Invisible Spaces''), was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. 17th Asia Pacific Screen Awards
The 17th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, presented by UNESCO, FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations) and the Brisbane City Council, took place on 30 November 2024 at the Home of the Arts, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, to recognize the best in cinema of the Asia Pacific Region of 2024. The nominations were announced on 16 October 2024. The most nominated films were ''All We Imagine as Light'', a co-production between France, India, Netherlands and Luxembourg, directed by Payal Kapadia, and ''April'', a co-production between Georgia, Italy and France, directed by Dea Kulumbegashvili, with both films being up for five awards each. The Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) is an international cultural initiative overseen by the Asia Pacific Screen Academy and headquartered in Australia. The 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival will take place from 20 to 28 September 2024 in San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa, Spain. The Golden Lion ( it, Leone d'oro) is the highest prize given to a film at the Venice Film Festival. The prize was introduced in 1949 by the organizing committee and is now regarded as one of the film industry's most prestigious and distinguished prizes. MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024
The MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024 took place between 19 and 24 October 2024 in Mumbai, India. It was the first edition of the festival under interim festival director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, following the departure of Anupama Chopra from the festival director position. It was also the first edition of the festival since 2014 to not have a title sponsor. As with the 2023 edition of the festival, the main competition of the festival was limited to filmmakers from South Asia (except Pakistan) and the South Asian diaspora.
