Apostolic Prefecture Of Hainan
The Apostolic Prefecture of Hainan is a pre-diocesan missionary Latin jurisdiction of the Catholic Church covering the Chinese province of Hainan, which is exempt, i.e. directly dependent on the Holy See and its missionary Roman Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, not part of any ecclesiastical province. Its episcopal see is the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, located in Haikou, the capital of the province. The apostolic prefecture has been vacant, i.e. without a prefect, since 1980. Haikou; Chinese postal romanization, formerly romanized as Hoihow is the capital city, capital and most populous city of the Chinese province of Hainan. Haikou city is situated on the northern coast of Hainan, by the mouth of the Nandu River.
