Anuj Sharma (police Officer)
Anuj Sharma (born 27 March 1968)) is an officer of the Indian Police Service. He was the 40th and 42nd Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, having served from 19 February to 5 April 2019 and from 26 May 2019 to 7 February 2021. On 26 May 2019, Anuj Sharma was reinstated as the 42nd Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, replacing Dr. Rajesh Kumar. Education Anuj Sharma completed school education at La Martinière College, Lucknow in 1985. Sharma completed his BA and MA in Economics at Lucknow University in 1987 and 1989 respectively. Career Sharma qualified for the 1991 batch of the Indian Police Service. He was part of the 44th regular recruit training group at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy. Indian Police Service
The Indian Police Service (IPS) is a civil service under the All India Services. It replaced the Indian Imperial Police in 1948, a year after India became Partition of India, independent from the British Empire. Indian Independence Medal
The Indian Independence Medal was instituted by the Dominion of India and approved by King George VI by way of a Royal Warrant dated 21 July 1948. It was a commemorative medal for service with the Indian armed forces at the time of independence in August 1947. Attached British personnel were eligible. It was awarded to all those who, on 15 August 1947, were members of the armed forces of India, including the forces of princely states that acceded to Indian rule before 1 January 1948. British military personnel who remained in India after independence and who served with Indian forces up to 1 January 1948 qualified, although those with British units awaiting repatriation did not. The medal is circular, in diameter and made of cupronickel. The obverse has the Ashoka Chakra wheel surmounted by a Tudor Crown, surrounded by the inscription ''GEORGIUS VI D:G: BRITT:OMN: REX: FID DEF''. Gorkhaland Movement
The Gorkhaland movement is a campaign to create a separate state within India in the Gorkhaland region of West Bengal for the Indian Gorkha, Nepali-speaking Indians. The proposed state includes the hill regions of the Darjeeling district, Kalimpong district and Dooars regions that include Jalpaiguri district, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar district, Alipurduar and parts of Cooch behar districts. Bardhaman District
Bardhaman (, ), or sometimes Burdwan and Barddhaman, is a former district in the Indian state of West Bengal, headquartered in Bardhaman. On 7 April 2017, the district was bifurcated into two separate districts namely Purba Bardhaman and Paschim Bardhaman. It was the seventh most populous district in India (out of 640) at the time of bifurcation. Etymology Historians link the name of the district to the 24th and last Jain ''tirthankara'', Mahavira Vardhamana, who came to preach in the area.
