Antonio Castrejon
Antonio Castrejon (1625–1690) was a Spanish painter. Life Castrejon was born at Madrid in 1625. He was a pupil of Francisco Fernandez, and possessed more facility in colouring than skill in drawing. His best works are of small dimensions, but he sometimes painted large altar-pieces, as the ''Martyrdom of Santa Lucia'', in the church of San Felipe el Real at Madrid, which was destroyed by fire in 1718. He painted figures in the architectural pieces of Roque Ponce and of Josef Garcia, and groups within the flower-garlands of Gabriel de la Corte. He died at Madrid in 1690. Francisco Fernández (artist)
Francisco Fernández, (1606 in Madrid – 1646) who was brought up in the school of Vincenzo Carducci, Vincenzo Carducho, was one of the most ingenious artists of his time, and his talent gained great reputation for him at an early age. He was employed by Philip IV of Spain, Philip IV in the palaces at Madrid, and in the convent of La Victoria are pictures by him of the ''Death of St. Francis of Paola,'' and ''St. Joachim and St. Anne.'' He also etched five spirited plates of allegories for Carducho's ''Dialogos de la Pintura,'' 1633. He was killed in a quarrel by Francisco de Baras. An altarpiece is an artwork such as a painting, sculpture or relief representing a religious subject made for placing at the back of or behind the altar of a Christian church. Though most commonly used for a single work of art such as a painting or sculpture, or a set of them, the word can also be used of the whole ensemble behind an altar, otherwise known as a reredos, including what is often an elaborate frame for the central image or images. Acislo Antonio Palomino de Castro y Velasco (165513 April 1726) was a Spanish painter of the Baroque period, and a writer on art, author of ''El Museo pictórico y escala óptica'', which contains a large amount of important biographical material on Spanish artists. Life Antonio Palomino was born to a respectable family at Bujalance, near Córdoba in 1655. He studied philosophy, theology and law at Córdoba, and had lessons in painting from Juan de Valdés Leal, who visited there in 1672, and afterwards from Juan de Alfaro y Gamez in 1675. After taking minor orders Palomino moved to Madrid in 1678, where he associated with Alfaro, Claudio Coello, and Juan Carreño de Miranda, and executed some indifferent frescoes.
