Anthony Quinn (rugby League)
Anthony Quinn (born 19 January 1983) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s. He played as a er and for the Newcastle Knights and Melbourne Storm in the NRL. Early life Born in Penrith, New South Wales, Quinn was educated at St Francis Xavier's College, Hamilton, where he represented 1999 & 2000 Australian Schoolboys. Anthony played his junior football for the Valentine-Eleebana Red Devils before being signed by the Newcastle Knights. Playing career In round 1 of the 2002 NRL season he made his NRL debut for the Newcastle Knights against the Northern Eagles. He scored a try on debut. In the 2005 NRL season, Quinn made 18 appearances for Newcastle as the club endured one of the worst seasons on the field as the club finished last on the table. 2009 NRL Season
The 2009 NRL season was the 102nd season of professional rugby league football club competition in Australia, and the twelfth run by the National Rugby League. For the third consecutive year, sixteen teams competed for the 2009 Telstra Premiership title. The season commenced with the first match played on 13 March and ended with the Grand Final, played on 4 October. The Grand Final was won by the Melbourne Storm in their fourth consecutive grand final appearance. However, they were stripped of their Premiership on 22 April 2010 after they were found to be guilty of breaching the league's salary cap. 2008 Rugby League World Cup
The 2008 Rugby League World Cup was the thirteenth staging of the Rugby League World Cup since its inauguration in 1954, and the first since the 2000 tournament. The tournament was held in Australia from 26 October, culminating in the final between Australia and New Zealand on 22 November. The tournament was the fourth time that the World Cup was held in Australia, the first being in 1957. The tournament was won by New Zealand, who defeated Australia 34–20 in the final in one of the greatest upsets in the history of the sport. The tournament featured the best ten teams around the globe which were split into three groups. A total of eighteen matches took place in twelve different venues across four Australian states. The Queensland rugby league team represents the Australian state of Queensland in rugby league football. Nicknamed the "Maroons" after the colour of their jersey, they play three times a year against arch-rivals New South Wales in the State of Origin series.
