Anthony Andrew Cook (born May 30, 1972) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins and the Houston/Tennessee Oilers. Defensive End
Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. History Early formations, with six- and seven-man lines, used the end as a containment player, whose job was first to prevent an "end run" around his position, then secondarily to force plays inside. When most teams adopted a five-man line, two different styles of end play developed: "crashing" ends, who rushed into the backfield to disrupt plays, and "stand-up" or "waiting" ends, who played the more traditional containment style. The draft was held April 22–23, 1995 at the Paramount Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. The draft was the first with the expansion Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars franchises, who each received two extra picks between the first and second rounds. 1999 Washington Redskins Season
The Washington Redskins season was the franchise's 68th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 63rd in Washington, D.C. The team improved on their 6–10 record from 1998 to go 10–6. They succeeded to the extent of reaching their first postseason since 1992 and beating the Detroit Lions in the Wildcard round of the playoffs, their most recent home playoff victory. Their season would end after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a single point in the divisional playoff round. The season would also be the first season for new team owner Daniel Snyder, who purchased the team prior to the start of the season from Jack Kent Cooke's estate. The sale was finalized by the Cooke family on July 13, 1999. The season culminated with Super Bowl XXXIII, with the Denver Broncos defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34–19 at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. The 1997 NFL season was the 78th regular season of the National Football League (NFL). The Oilers relocated from Houston, Texas to Nashville, Tennessee. The newly renamed Tennessee Oilers played their home games during this season at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee while construction of a new stadium in Nashville started. Houston would rejoin the NFL with the expansion Texans in 2002. The 1996 Houston Oilers season was the 37th season overall and 27th with the National Football League (NFL) and their final season in Houston. The team bested their previous season's output of 7–9, but failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third consecutive season. The Oilers only won two out of their eight games at home.
