Anthony Abdy (1579–1640)
Anthony Abdy (18 October 1579 (baptised) – 10 September 1640), was a citizen and East India merchant of London. On the death of his father in 1595 he inherited lands at Colliers Row, Havering atte Bower, Essex and property in Red Lion Gate, London. He had a small book collection. Career Abdy served as an alderman of the City of London and was Sheriff of London, 1630-31. He was appointed as a director of the Honourable East India Company, East India Company in 1617 and as its deputy governor in 1639. He lived in Lime Street, London, Lime Street, London, in the house where William Dockwra’s Penny Post was established in 1680. He was a member of the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers and served as its Master in 1632. In 1630, he purchased the Fillol's Hall, Felix Hall estate in Essex, which was bequeathed to his eldest son, Thomas. Abdy had a small private book collection in his Lime Street home, valued at £12. Sir Anthony Abdy, 5th Baronet
Sir Anthony Thomas Abdy, 5th Baronet, KC ( 1720 – 7 April 1775) was a British barrister and Whig politician. Family He was the eldest son of Sir William Abdy, 4th Baronet (of the 1641 creation), and his wife Mary Stotherd, daughter of Philip Stotherd. Abdy was educated at Felsted School and went then to St John's College, Cambridge. On 13 August 1747, Abdy married Catherine Hamilton, daughter of John Hamilton of Chancery Lane. Their wedding was held in St Paul's Cathedral in London. In 1750, he succeeded his father as baronet and in 1759, also inherited the estates of Sir John Abdy, 4th Baronet, the great-grandchild of the brother of his great-grandfather. These estates included Albyns, in Stapleford Abbotts, Essex, which he made his home. Abdy suffered from gout in his last years, and died of it in 1775. Anthony Abdy (cricketer)
Brigadier-General Anthony John Abdy (26 April 1856 – 4 July 1924) was an English first-class cricketer and an officer in the British Army. In the army, he served with the Royal Artillery from 1876 to 1918, seeing action in the Mahdist, Second Boer, and First World War's. In cricket, he played at first-class level for Hampshire County Cricket Club. Life and military career The son of John Thomas Abdy, Regis Professor of Law at Cambridge and a County Court Judge, he was born at Cambridge in April 1856. He was educated at Charterhouse School, before attending the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich. He graduated from there in to the Royal Artillery (RA) as a temporary lieutenant in August 1876, which was made permanent in March the following year. During his career with the RA, he was known as a capable cricketer with RA cricket team, and played for Essex in 1876, prior to them gaining first-class status.
