Split Enz
Split Enz were a New Zealand band formed in 1972. Regarded as the first New Zealand band to gain significant recognition outside of Australasia, they were initially noted for their progressive rock, progressive/art rock sound, flamboyant visual style and theatrical performances. The band later moved toward a pop/new wave sound that yielded the breakthrough hit single "I Got You (Split Enz song), I Got You" (1980). Split Enz broke up in 1984. Mushroom Records was an Australian flagship record label, founded in 1972 in Melbourne. Eddie Rayner
Anthony Edward Charles Rayner (born 19 November 1952) is a New Zealand musician who spent ten years as a keyboardist in the band Split Enz. He has also played in the groups Orb, Space Waltz, Crowded House, the Makers, The Angels in 1986-1987 and 801. Biography Rayner was born in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, in 1952. Rayner has released two solo albums. The first, ''Horse'', was an instrumental offering released in 1995, recorded entirely at Rayner's home studio in Melbourne, Australia. The second was entitled ''Play it Straight'', a play on a Philip Judd Split Enz song called "Play it Strange" that was a particular favourite of Rayner's during the mid- to late-1970s. Nigel Griggs
Nigel Griggs (born 18 August 1949) is an English musician. He is perhaps best known for having played bass guitar in the band Split Enz. He is the brother of Paul Griggs from the 1970s vocal group Guys 'n' Dolls. Biography A professional musician since 1963, Griggs has played in a number of bands, notably The Cortinas and Octopus, 1963–1971, with his brother Paul Griggs. Nigel Griggs joined Split Enz in 1977 at the same time Neil Finn did, at the recommendation of the drummer at that time and close friend of Griggs, Malcolm Green. Griggs stayed with the Enz until their 1984 split. His songwriting credits with the band include " Dirty Creature", co-written with Neil Finn and Tim Finn. ''Spellbound'', very often subtitled on the cover as "The Very Best Of Split Enz", is a 1997 compilation album by New Zealand rock band Split Enz. Apparently intended to be the final word on Split Enz compilations, it is the band's most comprehensive career survey. Featured amongst the album's 39 tracks are all the hits, live favourites, choice album tracks and a few rarities, all selected by members of the band. Similar to the band's 1980 album ''True Colours'', ''Spellbound'' was released with different colour combos for the cover: blue & yellow, red & green, purple & orange, and black & cream (the last one being the only combo available for the cassette version), while the 1999 New Zealand reissue featured a special black & silver cover. Tim Finn
Brian Timothy Finn (born 25 June 1952) is a New Zealand singer, songwriter, musician, and composer. He is best known as a founding member of Split Enz. Finn founded the band in 1972 with Phil Judd and served as lead singer and principal songwriter. Following Judd's departure in 1977, he was joined by brother Neil Finn, Neil. Finn wrote or co-wrote some of the band's best-known songs, including "I See Red (Split Enz song), I See Red" and "Six Months in a Leaky Boat". Neil Mullane Finn (born 27 May 1958) is a New Zealand singer-songwriter and musician. He is best known for being a principal member of Split Enz and for being the lead singer of Crowded House. Phil Judd
Philip Raymond Judd (born 20 March 1953) is a New Zealand singer-songwriter known for being one of the founders of the bands Split Enz and The Swingers. Split Enz In 1972, Judd and Tim Finn founded the arty folk band Split Enz. In its early days, the band was known for its eccentric behaviour, wacky clothes, makeup and crazy hairstyles. During the initial stages, all the band members adopted their middle names, with the exception of Phil Judd, the only member from that era to use his first name. While the other members of the group had hairstyles that were out of the ordinary, Judd chose to shave his head after the release of the first album ''Mental Notes (Split Enz album), Mental Notes''.
