Anne Barrington
Anne Barrington (born 8 April 1953) is an Irish diplomat. She served as Irish ambassador to Japan and represented the Government of Ireland as a Diplomatic_rank#Special_envoy, Special Envoy to the United Nations as part of 2021 United Nations Security Council election, Ireland's successful bid to join the UN Security Council for 2021 and 2022. Career Barrington served as an Ambassador in Tanzania, Kenya and Burundi. She was Ambassador in Japan during the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries in 2016. She was a Joint-Secretary to the North/South Ministerial Council#Operation, North/South Ministerial Council, a body set-up by the Good Friday Agreement. In 2022, Barrington chaired the United Ireland, shared island research unit in the Department of the Taoiseach. North/South Ministerial Council
The North/South Ministerial Council (NSMC) (, Ulster-Scots: ) is a body established under the Good Friday Agreement to co-ordinate activity and exercise certain governmental powers across the whole island of Ireland. The Council takes the form of meetings between ministers from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and is responsible for twelve policy areas. Six of these areas are the responsibility of corresponding North/South Implementation Bodies. The body is based in the city of Armagh in Northern Ireland. The North/South Ministerial Council and the Northern Ireland Assembly are "mutually inter-dependent" institutions: one cannot exist without the other. Good Friday Agreement
The Good Friday Agreement (GFA) or Belfast Agreement ( or ; or ) is a pair of agreements signed on 10 April (Good Friday) 1998 that ended most of the violence of the Troubles, an ethno-nationalist conflict in Northern Ireland since the late 1960s. It was a major development in the Northern Ireland peace process of the 1990s. It is made up of the Multi-Party Agreement between most of Northern Ireland's political parties, and the BritishIrish Agreement between the British and Irish governments.
