Ankenesstranda
Ankenesstranda or Ankenesstrand (sometimes simply called "Ankenes") is a village area in Narvik Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village area is a western suburb of the town of Narvik and just east of the village of Håkvik. The village lies at the confluence of the large Ofotfjorden and the smaller Beisfjorden. The European route E06 highway runs through the village before crossing the Beisfjord Bridge into the town of Narvik. In 2016, there were about 3,000 inhabitants of the village. The village was the administrative centre of the old Ankenes Municipality which existed from 1884 until 1974. It is a fjord arm that branches off of the main Ofotfjorden, on the south side of the town of Narvik. The Beisfjord Bridge on the European route E06 highway crosses the fjord between Ankenesstranda and Narvik. The village of Beisfjord is located at the end of the long fjord. The maximum depth of the fjord reaches below sea level. History A temporary bridge was set up over the fjord in July 1943 and a ferry connection was set up between Fagernes and Ankenesstranda. Ankenes Church
Ankenes Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Narvik Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ankenesstranda. It is the main church for the Ankenes parish which is part of the Ofoten prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in an octagonal style in 1842 using plans drawn up by the architect Ingebrigt Julin. The church seats about 380 people. History The first church in Ankenes was built around 1652-1661. Around 1730, the old church was torn down and a new church was rebuilt on the same site. Then in 1842, the old church was torn down and a new building was constructed on the same site. The new church was consecrated on 26 September 1842. In 1879-1880, the church was renovated and redecorated. In 1940, during World War II, the church was damaged during the fighting. It was repaired in 1947. Beisfjord Bridge
The Beisfjord Bridge () is a girder bridge in Narvik Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The concrete bridge crosses the Beisfjorden on the west side of the town of Narvik. The bridge connects Ankenesstranda, a residential area on the west side of Narvik, southwest of the fjord, to the city centre of Narvik. Most of the population is on the northeastern side. Ankenes is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1884 until 1974. It encompassed most of the present-day Narvik Municipality, surrounding of the Narvik (town), town of Narvik which was once its own municipality. The administrative centre of Ankenes was the village of Ankenesstrand, situated along the west side of the Beisfjorden, where the Ankenes Church is located. Prior to its dissolution on 1 January 1974, the municipality was the 31st largest by area out of the 444 municipalities in Norway. European Route E06
European route E6 (, , or simply E6) is the main north–south thoroughfare through Norway as well as the west coast of Sweden. It is long and runs from the southern tip of Sweden at Trelleborg, into Norway and through almost all of the country north to the Arctic Circle and Nordkapp. The route ends in Kirkenes close to the Russian border. Route From south to north, the E6 runs through Trelleborg, Malmö, Helsingborg, Halmstad, Gothenburg, Svinesund in Sweden, before crossing the border at the Svinesund Bridge into Norway. The Ofotfjord (; ) is a fjord in Nordland county, Norway. It is an inlet of the Norwegian Sea, located about north of the Arctic Circle.
