Anime Detour
Anime Detour is an annual three-day anime convention held during March/April at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The convention run by the non-profit organization Anime Twin Cities. Programming The convention typically offers anime music videos, anime rooms, artist alley, costume contests, guest panels, a masquerade, vendors' room, and workshops. History The convention in 2009 had an attendance cap of 3,500, and was sold out a month ahead of the event. In 2011 the convention held a fundraiser for voice actor Greg Ayres, who needed dental work due to an attack he suffered during his youth. Anime Detour 2011 raised $36,000 towards tsunami relief, resulting in Anime Twin Cities being awarded the American Red Cross Donor Award. Allison Keith-Shipp is an American voice actress who is best known for her English-dubbing work with ADV Films on anime movies and television series as ''Neon Genesis Evangelion'', in which she voiced the character Misato Katsuragi. Keith was introduced to voice acting by Amanda Winn Lee when they were in an improv troupe together, and began with the part of Gamera in ''Gunsmith Cats'';Horn 1998 she cites Sakura in ''Blue Seed'' as her favorite character. She has a bachelor's degree in theater from the University of Houston, and a teacher's certification. Tadao Tomomatsu is an actor, instructor, and science fiction personality living in the Los Angeles, California area. Career Tadao has appeared in '' Diagnosis: Murder'', '' The Tracey Ullman Show'', the films '' Inspector Gadget'' and '' Godzilla'', and many others. Shinichi Watanabe
is a Japanese anime director and voice actor. He is best known for his over-the-top adaptation of Rikdo Koshi's ''Excel Saga'', in which he appears as the character Nabeshin. Watanabe stated that the nickname Nabeshin (a name blending of "nabe" in Watanabe and "shin" in Shinichi) came to him from God. ''Sluggy Freelance'' is a long-running webcomic written and drawn by Pete Abrams. Starting in 1997, it is one of the oldest successful webcomics, and as of 2012 had hundreds of thousands of readers. Abrams was one of the first comic artists successful enough to make a living from a webcomic. While the strip began as a gag-a-day based series in which the three main protagonists (Torg, Riff and Zoë) would stumble from one brief, bizarre, parody-centric adventure to the next, the characters and plotlines gradually became longer and more serious.
