A province is almost always an administrative division within a country or state. The term derives from the ancient Roman ''provincia'', which was the major territorial and administrative unit of the Roman Empire's territorial possessions outside Italy. The term ''province'' has since been adopted by many countries. In some countries with no actual provinces, "the provinces" is a metaphorical term meaning "outside the capital city". It is the second-largest province in the Anglican Communion, as measured by baptised membership (not by attendance), after the Church of England. it gives its membership as "over 18 million", out of a total Nigerian population of 190 million. A bishop is an ordained clergy member who is entrusted with a position of authority and oversight in a religious institution. Joseph Adeyemi
Babatunde Joseph Adeyemi is an Anglican bishop in Nigeria: he is the current Bishop of Badagry. Adeyemi was born on 14 January 1957 in Ojo, Lagos State. He was educated at Government Teachers’ Training College, Badagry; Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan; and Lagos State University. After three years as a teacher, he was ordained deacon in 1984 and priest in 1986. After a curacy at Ebute Metta he held incumbencies at Awodi-Ora, Idumu and Festac Town. He became a Canon in 1999 and Archdeacon of Festac in 2000. He was consecrated as the pioneer Bishop of Badagry on 13 March 2005. In church governance, a diocese or bishopric is the ecclesiastical district under the jurisdiction of a bishop. History In the later organization of the Roman Empire, the increasingly subdivided provinces were administratively associated in a larger unit, the diocese ( Latin ''dioecesis'', from the Greek term διοίκησις, meaning "administration"). Christianity was given legal status in 313 with the Edict of Milan. Churches began to organize themselves into dioceses based on the civil dioceses, not on the larger regional imperial districts.
