Angel Escobedo
Angel Escobedo (born January 12, 1987) is an American former folkstyle and freestyle wrestler, and is the head wrestling coach at Indiana University. Escobedo won an NCAA Wrestling championship in 2008 and placed fifth at the World Wrestling Championships in 2013. Early life Escobedo is from Griffith, Indiana. College career Escobedo competed for the wrestling team at Indiana University. While there, he won an NCAA Division I championship, and placed in the top five nationwide all four years he competed. Escobedo was the first wrestler from Indiana University to ever place in the top eight four times. Freestyle career At the 2013 World Team Trials Escobedo finished 2nd, but was promoted to compete on the US World Championships team when Obe Blanc failed a drug test. At the 2013 World Wrestling Championships Escobedo advanced to the bronze medal match in the 55 kg division. Griffith is a town in the Calumet and St. John townships in Lake County, Indiana, United States. It is a part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The population was 16,331 in 2021. History The Griffith State Bank, E.J. and E. Griffith Interlocking Tower and Griffith Grand Trunk Depot are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. All-America
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention.
