Anecdotes Of Destiny
''Anecdotes of Destiny'' is a collection of stories by Danish author Karen Blixen written under the pseudonym Isak Dinesen. It was the last work published during Karen Blixen's lifetime, on October 12, 1958. Two of the stories from the collection have been adapted into films: "The Immortal Story" as the 1968 film ''The Immortal Story'' (directed by Orson Welles), and "Babette's Feast" as the 1987 Danish film ''Babette's Feast'' (directed by Gabriel Axel). The collection was re-published in 1993 by the Vintage Books imprint, combined with Blixen's novella ''Ehrengard'', under the title ''Anecdotes of Destiny and Ehrengard''. Karen Blixen
Baroness Karen Christentze von Blixen-Finecke (born Dinesen; 17 April 1885 – 7 September 1962) was a Danish author who wrote in Danish and English. She is also known under her pen names Isak Dinesen, used in English-speaking countries; Tania Blixen, used in German-speaking countries; Osceola, and Pierre Andrézel. Blixen is best known for ''Out of Africa'', an account of her life while in East Africa Protectorate, Kenya, and for one of her stories, ''Babette's Feast (short story), Babette's Feast''. Both have been adapted as films and each won Academy Awards. She is also noted, particularly in Denmark and the US, for her ''Seven Gothic Tales''. Among her later stories are ''Winter's Tales'' (1942), ''Last Tales'' (1957), ''Anecdotes of Destiny'' (1958) and ''Ehrengard'' (1963). The Immortal Story
''The Immortal Story'' () is a 1968 French film directed by Orson Welles and starring Jeanne Moreau. The film was originally broadcast on French television and was later released in theatres. It was based on a short story by the Danish writer Karen Blixen (more widely known by her pen name Isak Dinesen). With a running time of sixty minutes, it is the shortest feature film directed by Welles. Plot In nineteenth-century Macao, Mr. Clay (Orson Welles) is a wealthy merchant at the end of his life. His only constant companion is his book-keeper, a Polish-Jewish emigrant named Levinsky (Roger Coggio). One evening, while reading to Clay before bed, Levinsky recites a prophecy by Isaiah. George Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985) was an American director, actor, writer, producer, and magician who is remembered for his innovative work in film, radio, and theatre. ''Babette's Feast'' () is a 1987 Danish drama film directed by Gabriel Axel. The screenplay, written by Axel, was based on the 1958 story by Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen). It was produced by Just Betzer, Bo Christensen and Benni Korzen, with funding from the Danish Film Institute. It stars Stéphane Audran, Birgitte Federspiel, and Bodil Kjer. ''Babette's Feast'' was met with widespread critical acclaim and became the first Danish film to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
