Andropogon Ischaemum
''Bothriochloa ischaemum'' is a species of perennial grass in the family Poaceae, found throughout much of the world. It is commonly known as yellow bluestem. Two varieties are recognized, of which ''Bothriochloa ischaemum'' var. ''ischaemum'' is native to Europe, Asia, and Africa and naturalized elsewhere, and var. ''songarica'' is native to Asia and naturalized elsewhere. Var. ''songarica'' is an invasive weed in Texas, where it is known as "King Ranch bluestem"; it has displaced native grasses in large areas of central and south Texas. The species name come from the Ancient Greek ''ischaemum'', a styptic (causing ischemia). Yi Li Keng
Yi-Li Keng ( ''Gěng Yi-Li''; 1897, Nanjing – 1975) was a Chinese botanist, specializing in the study of grasses (the family Poaceae), particularly the tribe Triticeae of the Poaceae. Yi-Li Keng graduated in 1927 with B.Sc. from Nanjing University (called at that time National Southeastern University). After graduation, he collected plants in Zhejiang Province with Hsen-Hsu Hu and Sung-Shu Chien. At George Washington University Keng graduated with A.M. in 1932 and Ph.D. in 1933. Jack Rodney Harlan (June 7, 1917 – August 26, 1998) was an American botanist, agronomist, plant collector, and campaigner for crop plant biodiversity conservation. Early life Born in Washington, DC, Jack Harlan was the son of Harry Harlan, a plant breeder who worked on barley at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and who travelled around the world on seed collecting expeditions in search of new genetic material for use the USDA's crop breeding programs.
