Andrew Matthews (entomologist)
Andrew Matthews, M.A. (18 June 181514 September 1897) was a British clergyman and an entomologist who specialised in beetles (Coleoptera). In an obituary in '' The Zoologist'' the reverend Matthews is called a "well-known British naturalist." He was more widely known as an entomologist than an ornithologist. He was also a successful floriculturist. Little is known of him. According to the frontispiece of his 1878 book ''Trichopterygia illustrata'' he was styled "The Reverend", and held an M.A. degree from Oxford University. When he died, aged eighty-two, he had been a rector at Gumley, Leicestershire for forty-four years. He studied some of the tiniest beetles, which are the most difficult to identify. He described several species, notably in the genus ''Nicrophorus'', and is the binomial authority for at least three. Andrew Thomas Matthews (born 1978) is an American politician serving as the 23rd Controller of Nevada since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as a member of the Nevada Assembly representing Nevada's 37th district. Education and career A graduate of Boston University, Matthews briefly worked as a sports writer before entering politics in 2005 as a campaign worker in New Jersey. Matthews has worked for the conservative Nevada Policy Research Institute since 2007, starting as the communications director and ultimately becoming president. He was elected to the Nevada Assembly in 2020 after defeating incumbent Democrat Shea Backus, thus flipping the seat from Democratic to Republican. Vice Admiral Sir Andrew David Hugh Mathews KCB FREng (born 27 June 1958) is a senior Royal Navy officer who was Chief of Materiél (Fleet), Royal Navy. Naval career Mathews served as commander of HM Naval Base Devonport. Promoted to rear admiral, Mathews was appointed Director-General Nuclear and Controller of the Navy in 2006. He went on to be Director-General Submarines in 2007 and then, following promotion to vice admiral, Mathews was appointed Chief of Materiel (Fleet) and Chief of Fleet Support in 2009, a post he stood down from in December 2013.
