Andrew Jameson, Lord Ardwall
Andrew Jameson, Lord Ardwall (5 July 1845 – 21 November 1911) was a Scottish Advocate and Judge. He is the subject of a 1913 biography by John Buchan. Life Born at Ayr on 5 July 1845, he was eldest son of Alexandra, daughter of Alexander Colquhoun Campbell of Barnhill, Dumbartonshire and her husband, Andrew Jameson, sheriff of Aberdeen. Educated at Edinburgh Academy, he graduated with an MA from the University of St Andrews in 1865. He then attended the University of Edinburgh, and on 19 May 1870 he passed at the Scottish bar, where he gradually built up a practice. In 1882 Jameson was appointed junior counsel to the department of woods and forests. On 27 April 1886 he was made sheriff of Roxburgh, Berwick and Selkirk. Having taken part in politics as a Liberal Unionist, he received from Lord Salisbury's government in 1890 the office of sheriff of Ross, Cromarty and Sutherland on 28 November 1890, and became sheriff of Perthshire on 27 October 1891. Andrew Jameson PC (Ire) DL (17 August 1855 – 15 February 1941) was a Scottish-born Irish public servant, politician and businessman. He was chairman of the Jameson whiskey business and the Irish lighthouse authority, and a member of both the Senate of Southern Ireland and then Seanad Éireann until 1936. Early life Jameson was born in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland. He was educated at London International College, Trinity College, Cambridge and Trinity College Dublin. Business roles Jameson was chairman of the whiskey distillers John Jameson & Son Ltd. From 1896 to 1898 he was Governor of the Bank of Ireland, remaining a director until 1941. Andrew David Jameson (born 19 February 1965) is an English sports commentator and former competitive swimmer. Active as an elite swimmer in the mid to late 1980s he represented Great Britain in two consecutive Summer Olympics, the FINA World Championships, LEN European Championships, as well as England in the Commonwealth Games. At his peak between 1986 and 1988 he won the gold medal in 100 metre butterfly at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, the 1987 European Aquatics Championships and the 1987 Summer Universiade, as well as the 100 metre freestyle gold at the same Universiade. Winning the bronze medal at the 1986 World Aquatics Championships, Jameson's career in the pool culminated in winning the bronze medal in the 1988 Summer Olympics, his second and final Olympic Games.
