Andrew Carter (composer)
Andrew Carter (born 1939) is an English composer, conductor and arranger. Biography Born in Wigston Magna, Leicestershire, Carter studied music at the University of Leeds, before moving to York and joining the choir at the Minster as a bass. Whilst there, in 1965 he founded the Chapter House Choir, a mixed voice ensemble that achieved national renown under his direction of seventeen years. After spending a year conducting and adjudicating in New Zealand (1984), he returned to England to focus on composition. The Oxford University Press have published more than fifty of his compositions over a period of association spanning twenty-five years. The famous Nine Lessons and Carols service broadcast annually on the BBC by the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, has included several of his carols, including ''A maiden most gentle'' and ''Mary's Magnificat''. Andrew William Carter (born 29 January 1949) is a male British retired track and field athlete. Athletics career Carter participated in the men's 800 metres at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. Carter finished sixth in a time of 1:46.55. Carter won the bronze medal at the 1971 European Championships in Helsinki, Finland in the men's 800 metres, behind Yevgeniy Arzhanov (Soviet Union) and Dieter Fromm (East Germany) in a time of 1:46.16. He won the AAA title in 1970, 1972 and 1973. Carter won the European Cup in 1973 in Edinburgh defeating the Olympic silver medalist Arzhanov in 1:46.44. Andrew Carter (born 27 August 1988) is an English cricketer. A right-handed batsman and right-hand medium pace bowler, he began his county career with Nottinghamshire, making his first-class debut for them in June 2009. He also played on loan for Essex in 2010 and Glamorgan in 2015 while with Nottinghamshire. Carter joined Derbyshire prior to the 2016 season, but left the club later in the year. He represented England Lions in 2011. County career Born on 27 August 1988 in Lincoln, Carter started out with Lincolnshire in minor counties cricket before signing for Nottinghamshire. Andrew John Carter (born 25 January 1974) is a British Conservative Party politician, who was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Warrington South at the 2019 general election. Biography Carter was privately educated at Worksop College. He went on to study Economics at the University of Leicester. In 2011 he attended Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. Carter was group managing director of Manchester-based GMG Radio before the group was taken over by Global Radio in 2014. After leaving radio he worked in a family business and ran a consultancy firm. He was selected as the Conservative candidate for Warrington South in March 2019. He was elected to the seat at the general election in December that year, gaining the seat from the Labour incumbent. He is a volunteer magistrate.
