Andre Van Deventer
Andre van Deventer , born 1930 was a South African Army officer who served as the Chief of Staff Finance from 1976 - 1979 and later Secretary of the State Security Council until 1985. He joined the Permanent Force in 1955 and commanded 2 South African Infantry Battalion from January 1965 until December 1967 when he became the Commanding Officer of SWA Command. He later served as Officer Commanding Orange Free State Command and North West Command. In 1974 he was appointed General Officer Commanding of I South African Corps. During the Angolan Civil War (1975-1976) he served as Commander of Task Force 101. He served as Chief of Staff Finance from 1 October 1976 to 6 August 1979. 2 South African Infantry Battalion
2 South African Infantry Battalion is a motorised infantry unit of the South African Army. History Origin: Walvis Bay and South West Africa 2 SAI was established on 1 January 1962, at Walvis Bay an enclave of South Africa surrounded by South-West Africa (Namibia). The first officer to command the battalion was Major G.N. Mcloughlin and the first RSM was WO1 J.A.J. Steenkamp. Initially the base consisted of tents, but was later replaced by prefabricated buildings. Basic training took place in the desert and running up Dune 7 became part of that regime. Units Colours The unit was awarded its colours by the local municipality in 1969, and adopted the town's motto and flamingo emblem as a consequence. South West Africa Command
South West Africa Command was a command of the South African Army. History Origin South West Africa Command was one of the South African Defence Force's regional commands, which made up the Territorial Force. Based in Windhoek, it was initially responsible for the security of the entire South West Africa, forming the main level of command for military operations providing logistic, administrative and service support to all units and formations operating in its area of responsibility as well as support for the Police. Gert Boshoff
Lieutenant General Gert Johannes Jacob Boshoff SSAS SD SM (28 April 1931 - 22 October 2014) was a South African Army general. He attended school at Barberton High School in the Eastern Transvaal but left at the age of 15 before joining the Post Office, later completing his Matric at the Pretoria Technical College in 1948 through evening classes. In 1950 he started working for the City Council of Pretoria, and also joined the Citizen Force where he became part of 6 Signal Squadron. As a Colonel he was appointed as Director Signals at Army HQ (26 January 1968 – 31 December 1972), and then promoted to Brigadier from 1 November 1968. On 4 December 1972 he was appointed OC North West Command. On 1 December 1974 he was promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Chief of Army Staff Logistics. General Magnus André de Merindol Malan (30 January 1930 – 18 July 2011) was a South African military figure and politician during the last years of apartheid in South Africa. He served respectively as Minister of Defence in the cabinet of President P. W. Botha, Chief of the South African Defence Force (SADF), and Chief of the South African Army.
