Andal–Sitarampur Loop Line
The Andal–Sitarampur loop line is a railway line connecting Andal & Sitarampur on the Bardhaman–Asansol section of the Howrah–Delhi main line with each other. This track is under the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway. This track primarily serves the northern coalfield areas of the Paschim Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. History The Ondal-Baboissola Railway was constructed by the Tarkessur Railway Company in 1863 and was opened to traffic on 1864. The lines were worked upon by East Indian Railway Company till 1914 before the Tarkessur Railway Company was acquired by the State in 1915 & incorporated with EIR following which this line became a part of the EIR network. Paschim Bardhaman District
Paschim Bardhaman district is a predominantly urban mining-industrial district in West Bengal. The headquarter of the district is Asansol. It was formed on 7 April 2017 after bifurcation of the erstwhile Bardhaman district as the 23rd district of West Bengal. Etymology Some historians link the name of the district to the 24th and last Jain ''tirthankara'', Mahavira Vardhamana, who came to preach in the area. Alternatively, ''Bardhamana'' means a prosperous and growing area. It was a forward frontier zone in the progress of Aryanisation by the people in the Upper Gangetic valley. ''Paschim'' means west. Satgram Area
Satgram Area is one of the 14 operational areas of Eastern Coalfields Limited located mainly in Asansol subdivision of Paschim Bardhaman district and partly in Bankura Sadar subdivision in Bankura district, both in the state of West Bengal, India. History The earliest attempts at coal mining in India by Suetonius Grant Heatly and John Sumner were at places such as Ethora, Chinakuri, Damulia (Damalia?) and others further west and not identified with modern-day places. The earliest attempts did mark the historic beginning of coal mining in India but did not produce much coal. When people such as William Jones, Jeremiah Homfrey and the Erskine brothers and companies such as Alexander & Co. again made attempts at mining coal they did so at places such as Narainkuri and Mangalpore, in and around what is now the Satgram Area of ECL. Churulia
Churulia is a suburb of Asansol under the Jamuria CD block, in the Asansol Sadar subdivision of the Paschim Bardhaman district in the state of West Bengal, India. History It is the birthplace of Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, and the resting place of his wife Pramila Devi. Many of the manuscripts, medallions and other belongings of the poet are preserved at Nazrul Academy in the village. Nearby, there is a college bearing the poet's name. Nazrul Academy was established in 1958. It is believed that there was a fort at Churulia in olden days. It fell to Sher Khan, the Afghan chieftain in the 16th century. A mound in the village is believed to contain the ruins of the fort. During the Muslim rule a mosque was built at Churulia. It is a good example of Islamic architecture. The Barddhaman–Asansol section is a railway line connecting and . This track is part of the Howrah–Delhi main line, Howrah–Gaya–Delhi line and Howrah–Allahabad–Mumbai line.
