Ana Paula Henkel
Ana Paula Rodrigues Henkel (born 13 February 1972), more commonly known as Ana Paula, is a Brazilian retired female volleyball player and journalist who represented Brazil at four Summer Olympics: in volleyball in 1992 and 1996, and in beach volleyball in 2004 and 2008. With Brazil women's national volleyball team, she won three World Grand Prix editions and got medals in various tournaments, including the 1996 Olympics in the United States and the 1994 FIVB World Championship in Japan. On the beach, she won the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour in 2003 (alongside Sandra Pires) and 2008 (with Shelda Bede). Personal life After retiring from volleyball in 2010, Paula moved to Los Angeles, California, where she majored in architecture at UCLA and is now studying to get a master's degree in political science. The 1993 Women's South American Volleyball Championship was the 20th edition of the Women's South American Volleyball Championship, organised by South America's governing volleyball body, the Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV). It was held at Coliseo de la Juventud in Cuzco, Peru from September 12 to 19, 1993. Sandra Pires
Sandra Tavares Pires Nascimento (born 16 June 1973) is a Brazilian retired beach volleyball player. She won the gold medal in the inaugural women's beach volleyball tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, partnering with Jackie Silva. Pires also represented her native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where she claimed the bronze medal, teaming up with Adriana Samuel. She was also the flagbearer at the opening ceremony. Pires was the flagbearer for the second time at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour (known between 2003 and 2012 as the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour for sponsorship reasons) was the worldwide professional beach volleyball tour for both men and women organized by the ' (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, FIVB), the sport's global governing body. Brazil Women's National Volleyball Team
The Brazil women's national volleyball team is administered by the ''Confederação Brasileira de Voleibol'' (CBV) and takes part in international volleyball competitions. With a tally of 46 international titles the Brazil women's volleyball national team is one of the most successful national teams of all time. They have won 6 olympic medals including two gold medals, in the 2008 Summer Olympics and in 2012 Summer Olympics. They also hold the record of FIVB World Grand Prix championship titles having won the competition 12 times. Beach Volleyball At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's beach volleyball tournament at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing was held from August 9 to August 21, at the Beach Volleyball Ground at Chaoyang Park. Each of the 24 pairs in the tournament was placed in one of six groups of four teams apiece, and played a round-robin within that pool. The top two teams in each pool advanced to the Round of 16. The six third-place teams were ranked against each other, with ties being broken by the ratio of points won to lost. The best two advanced to the Round of 16, while the other four played two matches (#3 vs. #6 and #4 vs. #5) with the winners of those two matches advancing as well. The losers of those matches, along with the fourth-place teams in each group, were eliminated.
