''Phyllanthus emblica'', also known as emblic, emblic myrobalan, myrobalan, nelikai, Indian gooseberry, Malacca tree, amloki or amla, is a deciduous tree of the family Phyllanthaceae. Its native range is tropical and southern Asia. Description The tree is small to medium in size, reaching in height. The bark is mottled. The branchlets are finely pubescent (not glabrous), long, usually deciduous. The leaves are simple, subsessile and closely set along branchlets, light green, resembling pinnate leaves. The flowers are greenish–yellow. The fruit is nearly spherical, light greenish–yellow, quite smooth and hard on appearance, with six vertical stripes or furrows. Hashim Mahomed Amla OIS (born 31 March 1983) is a South African former international cricketer who captained the national side in Tests and ODIs. Amla holds the record for being the fastest ever to score 3,000, 4,000, and 7,000 ODI runs, joint fastest to 6000 runs and second fastest to reach 5,000 runs. He also became the fastest cricketer to reach 10 ODI centuries. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen to have played for South Africa, and one of the greatest opening batsmen of all time. Ahmed Amla
Ahmad Mahomed Amla (born 15 September 1979) is a South African former cricketer. He played domestic cricket for the Dolphins. A right-handed batsman, he made his first-class debut as a teenager in 1997/98. His brother, Hashim Amla, played Test and ODI cricket for South Africa. In April 2013, it was announced that Amla was retiring from all forms of cricket. He planned to focus on his studies towards a business degree and to pursue business interests. Playing career Amla made his first-class debut in 1997 for Natal B. He was picked in the South Africa Academy that toured Namibia and was also selected for the South African under-19 team. Amla, Madhya Pradesh
Amla is a municipality located in Betul district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the administrative center and only municipality of the Amla Subdivision. History Historically, Amla belonged to the Central Provinces of British India. The long Mohammedan dominion of the Central Provinces left its mark in the names of several places in the district, many of which were named after plants or trees. ''Amla'' was named after the Mango(''Ām'') fruit. A popular theory claims that the name Amla is short for ''Ammunition Land''. However, this is only a backronym that was invented in recent times.
