American Soccer Clubs In International Competitions
This is a list of American soccer clubs in international competitions. American clubs have participated in competitive international soccer competitions since 1963, when New York Hungaria entered the 1963 CONCACAF Champions' Cup. Unlike other major professional sports leagues in the United States, the winners of Major League Soccer are not universally considered to be world champions in their respective sport. Yearly, MLS teams will compete against other soccer clubs abroad in competitions to determine the champions of North America, the Americas, and the world. Since 1963, American soccer clubs have won three CONCACAF Champions' Cup/Champions League titles, and finished runners-up five times. Los Angeles Football Club, commonly referred to as LAFC, is an American professional Association football team based in Los Angeles. The club competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The club was established on October 30, 2014, and began play during the 2018 season as an expansion team. The club plays their home matches at Banc of California Stadium, a soccer-specific stadium located in Exposition Park. The managing owners of the club are Brandon Beck, Larry Berg, and Bennett Rosenthal. Los Angeles FC also has a variety of other part-owners, such as Will Ferrell. The club's inaugural head coach was Bob Bradley, who served from 2017 to 2021. Houston Dynamo FC
Houston Dynamo FC (formerly officially, but still commonly, called the Houston Dynamo) is an American professional soccer club based in Houston. The Dynamo compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference. Established on December 15, 2005, the club was founded after their former owners relocated the San Jose Earthquakes' players and staff to Houston following the 2005 season. For their first six seasons in Houston, the Dynamo were based at Robertson Stadium on the campus of the University of Houston. During the 2012 season, the club moved to PNC Stadium, a soccer-specific stadium in East Downtown Houston. The club is majority owned by Ted Segal, who fully controls ownership after buying out his remaining minority partners in August 2022. 2010 North American SuperLiga
The 2010 SuperLiga was the fourth edition of the SuperLiga. The top four overall Major League Soccer teams from the 2009 season not already qualified for the 2010–11 CONCACAF Champions League earned qualification as well as four clubs from the Primera División de México. Qualification The teams involved were selected based on qualification rules set by their respective leagues. On April 28, 2010, MLS announced that for the 2010 season the top four teams from the 2009 MLS regular season standings not competing in the 2010–11 CONCACAF Champions League would qualify for SuperLiga 2010. 2008 North American SuperLiga
The 2008 North American SuperLiga was the second edition of the SuperLiga competition. The top four Major League Soccer and Liga MX teams by point totals at the end of the season earned qualification. All games of the tournament were broadcast live on Fox Sports World in Canada (English), Telefutura in the United States (Spanish), and Televisa and TV Azteca in Mexico (both Spanish). New England Revolution
The New England Revolution is an American professional soccer club based in the Greater Boston area that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), in the Eastern Conference of the league. It is one of the ten charter clubs of MLS, having competed in the league since its inaugural season. The club is owned by Robert Kraft, who also owns the New England Patriots along with his son, Jonathan Kraft. The name "Revolution" refers to the New England region's significant involvement in the American Revolution that took place from 1775 to 1783. New England plays their home matches at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, located 21 miles (34 km) southwest of downtown Boston. 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup Final
The 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup final was the final match of the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup, the 59th season of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean's premier club association football tournament organized by CONCACAF. It was played at Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca, Mexico, on 1 June 2024. The final was a single match contested by Pachuca of Liga MX and the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer. Pachuca hosted the match due to their better record during the competition's earlier stages. The final was originally scheduled to take place on 2 June 2024. However, CONCACAF announced that the date would move if a Mexican team hosts the final due to the 2024 Mexican general election taking place that day. The Columbus Crew, formerly known as Columbus Crew SC, is an American professional soccer club based in Columbus, Ohio. The Crew competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference and began play in 1996 as one of the 10 charter clubs of the league. 2011 CONCACAF Champions League Final
The 2011 CONCACAF Champions League Final was the final of the 2010–11 CONCACAF Champions League, and the third final of the current format of the CONCACAF Champions League. The match was contested in a two-leg aggregate format between April 20–27, 2011. Real Salt Lake, often shortened to RSL, is an American professional soccer franchise based in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The club competes as a member club of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the Western Conference. RSL began play in 2005 as an expansion team of the league. The club was founded in 2004 when the club's first owner and founder was awarded an expansion berth in Major League Soccer. 1984 CONCACAF Champions' Cup
The 1984 CONCACAF Champions' Cup was the 20th edition of the CONCACAF Champions' Cup, the annual international club association football competition held in the CONCACAF region (North America, Central America and the Caribbean). It determined that year's club champion in the CONCACAF region and was played from 15 March to 21 October 1984. The teams were split in two zones, North/Central America and Caribbean, (as North and Central America sections combined to qualify one team for the final), each one qualifying the winner to the final tournament.
