Amblyomma Geayi
''Amblyomma geayi'' is a species of hard-backed ticks of the genus ''Amblyomma'', a blood feeding parasite. This tick is specific to sloths, such as three-toed sloths of the genus '' Bradypus'' and very rarely of two-toed sloths of the genus '' Choloepus''. It is native to the northern part of South America, mainly the Amazon rainforest region, but there have been reports of importation to other regions such as Japan Japan is an island country in East Asia. Ticks are parasitic arachnids of the order Ixodida. They are part of the mite superorder Parasitiformes. ''Amblyomma'' is a genus of hard ticks. Some are disease vectors, for example the Rocky Mountain spotted fever in United States or ehrlichiosis in Brazil. This genus is the third largest in the family Ixodidae, with its species primarily occupying the torrid zones of all the continents. The centre of species diversity is on the American continent, where half of all the species occur. Sloth
Sloths are a Neotropical realm, Neotropical group of xenarthran mammals constituting the suborder Folivora, including the extant Arboreal locomotion, arboreal tree sloths and extinct terrestrial ground sloths. Noted for their slowness of movement, tree sloths spend most of their lives hanging upside down in the trees of the tropical rainforests of South America and Central America. Sloths are considered to be most closely related to anteaters, together making up the xenarthran order Pilosa. Arthropods Associated With Sloths
A large number of arthropods are associated with sloths. These include biting and blood-sucking flies such as mosquitoes and sandflies, triatomine bugs, lice, ticks and mites.
