Amazons Of Rome
''Amazons of Rome'' () is a 1961 ''peplum'' film. During production, tensions brewed between Louis Jourdan and director Vittorio Cottafavi which led to Cottafavi being replaced with Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia. The film dealt with the legend of Cloelia which was also featured in '' Hero of Rome''. Plot In the year 476 BC the newly founded republic of Rome is at war with a coalition formed by Porcenna, king of Etrusca, and its allies Stavros (head of Greek mercenaries) and Drusco (chief of a Barbarian horde). After fierce fighting Drusco offers a truce but demands that the Romans offer hostages as a sign of good faith, including Clelia, the leader of a group of woman warriors. Drusco is assigned to look after the women, and he falls for Cloelia. Lucilla, an Estruscan noblewoman who was captured by the Romans and then released, hates the Romans. Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia
Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia (8 July 1894 – 4 January 1998) was an Italian film director whose career spanned from the 1930s to the mid-1960s. He mainly directed adventure pictures and popular comedies, including some starring Totò. His 1942 film ''Non ti pago!'' was shown as part of a retrospective on Italian comedy at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. Life and career Bragaglia was born in Frosinone, Latium, and was a veteran of World War I. Annie Oakley (born Phoebe Ann Mosey; August 13, 1860 – November 3, 1926) was an American marksman, sharpshooter and folk heroine who starred in Buffalo Bill's Wild West. Oakley developed hunting skills as a child to provide for her impoverished family in western Ohio. At age 15, she won a shooting contest against an experienced marksman, Frank E. Butler, whom she married in 1876. The pair joined Buffalo Bill in 1885, performing in Europe before royalty and other heads of state. Elda Furry (May 2, 1885February 1, 1966), known professionally as Hedda Hopper, was an American gossip columnist and actress. At the height of her influence in the 1940s, more than 35 million people read her columns. Carlo Giustini (4 May 1916 – 26 October 2005), sometimes credited as Carlo Justini, was an Italian actor. Life and career Born in Viterbo, the son of a railway employee, Giustini debuted at twenty years old in ''The Materassi Sisters'', after having been chosen through an audition. In the postwar years he was very active in the sentimental and adventurous genres, in which he usually played secondary and supporting roles. He was also cast in several international productions, mainly thanks to his perfect English. Life and career Born in Rome, Pani began his career playing the role of Jesus as a child in a Radio Vaticana radio drama.
