Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. " Off-piste" skiers—those skiing outside ski area boundaries—may employ snowmobiles, helicopters or snowcats to deliver them to the top of a slope. Back-country skiers may use specialized equipment with a free-heel mode, including 'sticky' skins on the bottoms of the skis to stop them sliding backwards during an ascent, then locking the heel and removing the skins for their descent. Olivier Jenot
Olivier Jenot (born 28 February 1988 in Monaco) is an alpine skier from Monaco. He competed for Monaco at the 2014 Winter Olympics in four alpine skiing events. Jenot was also selected to carry the Monégasque flag during the opening ceremony. 2006 Winter Olympics Jenot made his Olympic debut as an 18-year-old at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Jenot finished in 48th place in the super-G, 34th in the slalom, and did not finish the giant slalom. Jenot also qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, but dislocated his shoulder and broke his tuberosity bone near the humerus. This meant he could not compete at the Games. Veronica Smedh (born 1988) is a retired Swedish alpine skier. Competing at the Junior World Championships in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, her biggest success came at the 2008 edition with 5th and 4th places in slalom and giant slalom respectively. She also competed at the 2011 and 2013 Winter Universiade, claiming the bronze medal in giant slalom at the latter competition. She made her FIS Alpine Ski World Cup debut in November 2007 in Reiteralm, being disqualified. She collected her first World Cup points with a 22nd place in February 2008 in Zagreb, then a 19th place in the 2008–09 World Cup opener in Sölden.
