Sestriere (, , , ) is a ski resort in Piedmont, Italy, a ''comune'' (municipality) of the Metropolitan City of Turin. It is situated in Val Susa, from the France, French border. Its name derives from Latin language, Latin: ''ad petram sistrariam'', that is at sixty Roman mile, Roman miles from Turin. Geography Sestriere has 929 inhabitants as of 1 January 2021 and is located on the pass that links Val Chisone and Val Susa, at above mean sea level. The village is completely surrounded by mountains, which have been exploited to build one of the biggest ski resorts in Italy. Martin Braxenthaler (born 11 March 1972) is a German monoskier and Paralympian. He has participated in alpine skiing at four Winter Paralympic Games, in 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010. He won a bronze medal at the 1998 Winter Paralympics, four golds at the 2002 Games, three more golds at the 2006 Torino Paralympics and three golds and one silver at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics.
