Alan Scott (footballer, Born 1900)
Alan Gordon Forcett Scott (25 August 1900 – 2 October 1982) was an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He also had a noted career in Tasmania in both the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) and Tasmanian Football League (TFL). Football North Launceston Scott, a Tasmanian, started his career at North Launceston, where his twin brother Don also played. He was a member of their 1923 and 1925 NTFA premierships. Warracknabeal The 1926 season was spent at Warracknabeal in country Victoria, where he had gone to study "scientific farming". While studying at Warracknabeal he played football with the Warracknabeal Football Club in the Wimmera Football League. Alan Scott is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, and the first character to bear the name Green Lantern. He fights evil with the aid of a magical ring which grants him a variety of powers. He was created by Martin Nodell and Bill Finger, first appearing in the comic book ''All-American Comics'' #16, published in 1940. Alan Scott was created after Nodell became inspired by the characters from Greek, Norse, and Middle Eastern myths and tales, including Aladdin from ''One Thousand and One Nights'', and sought to create a popular entertainment character who fought evil with the aid of a magic ring that grants him a variety of supernatural powers. Alan Brown Scott (July 13, 1932 – December 16, 2021) was an American ophthalmologist specializing in eye muscles and their disorders, such as strabismus (eye misalignment). He is best known for his work in developing and manufacturing the drug that became known as Botox, research described as "groundbreaking" by the ASCRS. Scott initially developed botulinum type A neurotoxin (botulinum toxin) to treat strabismus, naming it Oculinum™ (“eye aligner”). He was fascinated by the prospect of turning "a deadly poison into a miracle drug for obscure but devastating eye diseases”. The cosmetic application was discovered by accident, during its original use as ophthalmic treatment. Archibald Allan Scott, Order of Australia, AO (1923–28 October 2008) was a South Australian businessman, most well known for his Mount Gambier-based transport, property and media interests. Career Scott was best known for founding the truck organisation Scott's Transport in Mount Gambier, South Australia, which has since grown to be one of the biggest freight companies in Australia, rivalling Linfox. In 1988 Scott purchased local rival transport company K&S Freighters and then listed it on the Australian Securities Exchange. Alongside trucking, he had many business interests in Mount Gambier, including the town's newspaper, ''The Border Watch'' and television station SES/RTS, SES8. Allan Shiach, who writes and produces under the pseudonym Allan Scott, is a Scottish screenwriter and producer, and former Scotch whisky executive. He was nominated for BAFTA's Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film and two Genie Awards for his 1997 film ''Regeneration''. He has won the Edgar Award (1976) and Writers' Guild Award (1978). Alan Scott (2 March 1936 – 26 January 2009) was a blacksmith and baking traditionalist who designed and built brick ovens and coauthored a book promoting their use for cooking breads and pizza. He built ovens in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, and started the Ovencrafters company. Life Scott was born in Toorak in Victoria, Australia on 2 March 1936. He graduated from Dookie Agricultural College, and afterwards went to work for a fertilizer company. Leaving his job at 25, Scott traveled throughout Australia, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Denmark—all hitchhiking. Eventually, he settled in Denmark and opened a jewelry store. Scott emigrated to the United States from Australia in the mid-1960s, where he opened a smithy in Northern California.
