Alan Cunningham
Sir Alan Gordon Cunningham, (1 May 1887 – 30 January 1983), was a senior Officer (armed forces), officer of the British Army noted for his victories over Italian forces in the East African Campaign (World War II), East African Campaign during the Second World War. He then commanded Eighth Army in the desert campaign, but was relieved of command during the ''Operation Crusader, Crusader'' battle against Erwin Rommel. Later he served as the seventh and last High Commissioners for Palestine and Transjordan, High Commissioner of Palestine. He was the younger brother of Admiral of the Fleet Andrew Cunningham, 1st Viscount Cunningham of Hyndhope, Lord Cunningham of Hyndhope. Allan Cunningham (7 December 178430 October 1842) was a Scottish poet and author. Life He was born at Keir, near Dalswinton, Dumfries and Galloway, and first worked as a stonemason's apprentice. His father was a neighbour of Robert Burns at Ellisland, and Allan with his brother James visited James Hogg, the "Ettrick shepherd", who became a friend to both. Cunningham's other brothers were the naval surgeon Peter Miller Cunningham (1789–1864) and the poet, Thomas Mounsey Cunningham (1776–1834). Cunningham gave his leisure to reading and writing imitations of old Scottish ballads. In 1809 he collected old ballads for Robert Hartley Cromek's ''Remains of Nithsdale and Galloway Song''; he sent in, however, poems of his own, which the editor inserted, even though he may have suspected their real authorship. Allen Cunningham (born March 28, 1977) is an American professional poker player who has won five World Series of Poker bracelets. Career Cunningham studied civil engineering at UCLA before dropping out of school to play poker professionally. At the age of 18, he began playing at Indian casinos. Cunningham won his first verified tournament in September 1998 at the National Championship of Poker in Inglewood. Previously a Full Tilt sponsored pro, he became a full member of Team Full Tilt in October 2006. Cunningham earned the title 2005 ESPN/Toyota Player of the Year and came close to winning it again in 2006. Cunningham's single largest tournament payout occurred at the 2006 World Series of Poker when he finished in fourth place out of 8,773 players in the Main Event, earning $3,628,513.
