Alfred Clarke (Australian Cricketer)
Alfred Edward Clarke (6 April 1868 – 16 September 1940) was an Australian cricketer. He played first-class cricket for New South Wales in Australia from the 1889–90 season until 1891–92 and for Otago and Wellington in New Zealand from 1893–94 to 1901–02. Clarke was born at Surry Hills in Australia in 1868. After moving to New Zealand in the early 1890s he played for the national team in the years before it was granted Test status. Alfred Henry Clarke (October 25, 1860 – January 30, 1942) was a Canadian politician. Born in Manilla, Canada West, Clarke was educated at the Public School of Manilla and the Oakwood High School. In addition to studying law at the University of Toronto, he was also a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada, a County Crown Attorney, and a Clerk of the Peace and Local Master in Chancery in Essex. Clarke was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the electoral district of Essex South in the general elections of 1904. Alfred Rutter Clarke (17 November 1867 – 10 December 1932), generally referred to as "Rutter Clarke" or "A. Rutter Clarke", was an Australian stockbroker and investor whose company Clarke and Co., founded by his grandfather, William Clarke, operated in three states, and specialised in mining ventures. History He was born in Prahran, Victoria the son of Alfred Edward Clarke (1843–1913) and his wife Caroline (née Long) (1844–1884) and brought up in the family home, "Royston", Dandenong Road, Malvern, Victoria. He was elected to the newly formed Melbourne Stock Exchange in 1891, its youngest member. Around 1892 he moved to Adelaide, bought a house "Merriwa" on North-East Road, Gilberton (which he sold in 1906) and established a sharebroking company there.
