Alexander Gardner (October 17, 1821 – December 10, 1882) was a Scottish and American photographer who immigrated to the United States in 1856, where he began to work full-time in that profession. He is best known for his photographs of the American Civil War, President of the United States, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, and of the conspirators and the execution of the participants in the Lincoln's assassination, Lincoln assassination plot. Early life Alexander was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Paisley, Renfrewshire (historic), Renfrewshire, on October 17, 1821. He became an apprentice jeweler at the age of 14, lasting seven years. Gardner was raised in the Church of Scotland and influenced by the work of Robert Owen, Welsh socialist and father of the cooperative movement. Alexander Gardner (soldier)
Colonel Alexander Haughton Campbell Gardner, also known as Gordana Khan (; ; 1785–1877), was a traveller, soldier, and mercenary active in Afghanistan and Punjab. He served in various military positions in the region, most notably for the Sikh Empire of Ranjit Singh. Details of his life remain obscure, though several colourful accounts have been written. Although corroborating evidence is sparse, Scottish historian John Keay wrote biographies in 1977, 1979, and, most thoroughly, ''The Tartan Turban: In Search of Alexander Gardner'', in 2017. Alex Gardner (born 1987, Long Beach, California) is an American visual artist working as a figurative painter. Gardner is based in Los Angeles, and has exhibited his work in cities across the United States, Europe and Asia. Work and Career Alex Gardner holds a BFA from California State University, Long Beach (2011). His acrylic paintings often depict anonymous and faceless Black subjects against light colored backgrounds. His human figures are painted in tons of gray, black and blue, and often perform daily and relational tasks. The artist has referenced Old Masters such as Michelangelo and El Greco in previous interviews and statements. In a 2016 interview for Juxtapoz Magazine, Gardner stated that he is interested "in the entire spectrum of human emotion" through his paintings. Alexander Gardner (1877 – 1952) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a right half. Career Born in Leith, Gardner played for local club Leith Athletic then moved to Newcastle United at the end of 1899, making over 300 appearances in the English Football League and FA Cup over the next decade. He won three League titles: 1904–05, 1906–07 and 1908–09 (plus the 1907 Sheriff of London Charity Shield in 1907), and played in three FA Cup finals in 1905, 1906 and 1908, though finishing on the losing side in all of them; he had retired through injury by the time the club first claimed the trophy in 1910.
