Sir Alexander Taylor FRSE MRIA (1802–18 May 1879) was a 19th-century Scottish physician and author. He attended to the wounded in both sides during the Franco-Prussian War, and wrote a book which promoted the healthful climate of Pau. Early life and education He was born in 1802 in Alton, Ayrshire, the son of William Taylor, a ship-owner. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, gaining his doctorate (MD) in 1825. Medical career In 1835 he served as Staff Surgeon to the English Auxiliary Force in Spain. In 1839 he settled in Pau in the Pyrenees and lived and worked there for the rest of his life. In 1842 he published ''On the Curative Influence of the Climate of Pau, and the Mineral Waters of the Pyrenees, on Disease''. The book did much to promote the town as a tourist destination. Alexander 'Alex' Taylor (February 28, 1947 – March 12, 1993) was an American singer. Biography Alexander Taylor was the eldest child of Gertrude and Isaac M. Taylor. He was a member of a family which produced a number of musicians, the most famous of whom is James Taylor, as well as Livingston, Hugh, and Kate Taylor. Alex Taylor had two sons, Edward and James. The elder son, Edward was adopted; his second son James, is the namesake of Alex's brother James, and inspired his uncle's 1970 hit " Sweet Baby James." Alex Taylor traveled around the states gigging and recorded his finest work at Kenny Veenstra's Progressive Music in Tampa. He is the youngest surviving acting teacher to have worked with famed acting teacher Sanford Meisner, having been in the last class to work with Meisner before the latter's death in 1997. Taylor attended Baylor University and studied with Sandra Seacat, coach to such actors as Johnny Depp, Jessica Lange, Meg Ryan and Mickey Rourke.
