Amharic is an Ethio-Semitic language, which is a subgrouping within the Semitic branch of the Afroasiatic languages. '' Dejazmatch'' Alemayehu Simyen Tewodoros (also referred to as Alamayou; 23 April 1861 – 14 November 1879), was the son of Emperor Tewodros II and Empress Tiruwork Wube of Ethiopia. Alemayehu Bezabeh Desta (Amharic: አለማየሁ በዛበህ ደስታ; born c. 1986) is an athlete who competes in middle- and long-distance running on the track, and also in cross country. Born in Ethiopia, he represents Spain internationally. His brother, Sisay Bezabeh, is also a professional runner and represents Australia internationally. Alemayehu Eshete
Alemayehu Eshete Andarge (Amharic: ዓለማየሁ እሸቴ አንዳርጌ; June 1941 – 2 September 2021) was an Ethiopian singer, widely known as the "Abyssinian Elvis" for his dynamic performances and his fusion of traditional Ethiopian music with Western rock and roll influences. He emerged in the 1960s and became a prominent figure in the Ethio-jazz movement, alongside musicians such as Mulatu Astatke. Eshete's music blended Ethiopian rhythms with elements of funk, soul, and jazz, and his hit songs include ''Temar Lije'' and ''Addis Ababa Bete''. His international recognition grew following the release of the Éthiopiques series, which featured many of his early recordings. Alemayehu Shumye Tafere (1988 – 11 January 2013; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) was an Ethiopian long-distance runner who specialised in marathon running. Born in Nazret, he took up running seriously in 2004 when he moved to Addis Ababa with the hope of emulating the success of Haile Gebrselassie. He made his marathon debut in 2008 at the Marathon del Riso in Vercelli and won the race in a time of 2:14:33. He ran in two other marathons that year, winning the Warsaw Marathon in 2:11:50 – a course record and personal best – and then breaking the course record to win the Beirut Marathon in November. Haddis Alemayehu (; 15 October 1910 – 6 December 2003) was an Ethiopian novelist. His Amharic novel '' Love to the Grave'' (Amharic: ፍቅር እስከ መቃብር; ''Fəqər əskä Mäqabər'', 1968) is considered a classic of modern Ethiopian literature. Aside from literature, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1960 to 1961.
