Alberto Del Saz
Alberto "Tito" del Saz is a former ice skater, a professional dancer, an instructor, and the Artistic Director of The Alwin Nikolais / Murray Louis Foundation for Dance. Early life Del Saz grew up in Bilbao, Spain and began ice-skating in his childhood which became his first performing career. In 1979 Del Saz was the Spanish National Champion in figure skating. After this he performed with Holiday on Ice-International. After working on Holiday on Ice, he turned to dance as the next step in his career. Del Saz moved to New York City and wrote to dance luminaries Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, and Paul Taylor before he found a place with the Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis dance companies. Martha Graham
Martha Graham (May 11, 1894 – April 1, 1991) was an American modern dancer, teacher and choreographer, whose style, the Graham technique, reshaped the dance world and is still taught in academies worldwide. Graham danced and taught for over seventy years. She was the first dancer to perform at the White House, travel abroad as a cultural ambassador, and receive the highest civilian award of the US: the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction. Paul Taylor (choreographer)
Paul Belville Taylor Jr. (July 29, 1930 – August 29, 2018) was an American dancer and choreographer. He founded the Paul Taylor Dance Company in 1954 in New York City. Alwin Nikolais
Alwin Nikolais (November 25, 1910 – May 8, 1993) was an American choreographer, dancer, composer, musician, and teacher. He created the Nikolais Dance Theatre, and was known for his self-designed innovative costume, lighting, and production design. Nikolais gave the world a new vision of dance and was named the "father of multi-media theater." Early life Nikolais was born on November 25, 1910, in Southington, Connecticut. Murray Louis
Murray Louis (November 4, 1926 – February 1, 2016) was an American modern dancer and choreographer. Life Louis was known as one of the most influential American modern dancers and choreographers. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he grew up in Manhattan near Henry Street where he would later attend class at the Henry Street Playhouse and also start his company. He was one out of five children and his mother died when he was eight years old. He was then sent to an orphanage until he was twelve. At this time his sister Ethel, who was studying dance at the time, took him to many modern dance concerts. He graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School in 1944. Hanya Holm (born Johanna Eckert; 3 March 1893 – 3 November 1992) is known as one of the "Big Four" founders of American modern dance. She was a dancer, choreographer, and above all, a dance educator. Early life, connection with Mary Wigman Born as Johanna Eckert on 3 March 1893 in Worms, Rhineland-Palatinate, German Empire. Maureen Fleming is an American dancer, performance artist, and choreographer from New York City. She studied butoh dance in Japan, and was described by ''The New Yorker'' magazine as "perhaps the foremost American practitioner of Butoh."
