Alberto Borgerth
Alberto Borgerth (3 December 1892 – 25 November 1958), was a Brazilian Rowing, rower, Association football, footballer, medic, and chairman of CR Flamengo, Flamengo and Federação de Futebol do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, FFERJ. Early life Son of a Brazilian father and a Hungarian mother, Alberto was born on 3 December 1892 as the son of Dr. José de Siqueira Álvares Borgerth, who was head of security for Dom Pedro II during his second reign. He played sports since he was 13 years old, being a rower for CR Flamengo until he turned 16, when he started playing football. Career He started playing football for Fluminense, from 1908 to 1911, participating in the conquest of three state titles, especially in 1911 when he played the most and scored two goals in a decisive victory over America Football Club (RJ), America. The Campeonato Carioca (Carioca Championship), officially known as Campeonato Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro State Championship), also commonly known as the Cariocão, is the top-flight professional state football league in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. The 1917 South American Championship of Nations was the second edition of the continental tournament now known as the Copa América. It was held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 30 September to 14 October 1917. Hosts Uruguay retained the title after winning 1–0 over Argentina in the last match of the competition. Ángel Romano from Uruguay finished as the top scorer of the tournament with 4 goals. Format There was no qualifying for the tournament. The participating countries were Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. Each team played one match against each of the other teams in a single group.
