Albert Torres (salsa Promoter)
Albert Torres (June 14, 1956 – May 25, 2017) was an international salsa dance promoter from Los Angeles. He is known for being the organizer of the LA Salsa Fest, the longest running salsa congress in the US, as well as one of the organizers of the World Salsa Championships and later the World Latin Dance Cup. Albert Torres had a number of minor film appearances in which he typically played the role of a dancer, including The Mambo Kings, Dance With Me, and Out to Sea. Salsa is the name for Latin American dances that are danced to salsa music. Salsa is one of the most popular types of Latin dance that is practiced worldwide, and is typically danced with a partner, although there are elements of solo footwork as well. There are several distinct styles of salsa that are danced around the world. Origin The term "salsa" was coined by Johnny Pacheco in the 1960s in New York, as an umbrella term for Cuban dance music being played in the city at the time. World Salsa Championships are major international Salsa (dance), salsa dancing competitions held throughout the world. There are several competitions around the world that claim to be "World Championships" of salsa. ''The Keenen Ivory Wayans Show'' is a late night syndicated television talk show hosted by Keenen Ivory Wayans. The show premiered August 4, 1997, and was cancelled in March 1998. The show had an opening monologue and comedy sketches. His in-house band was an all-female band called Ladies of the Night.
