"Albatross" is a song by Big Wreck. It is the title track from the band's 2012 album, and was released as the album's lead single. It is Big Wreck's first single released after reuniting in 2010 and their first single release since 2002. A 16-second preview clip of the song was released on October 24, 2011. The song was first streamed in its entirety on the Thornley/Big Wreck website on November 17, 2011, and was officially released digitally on November 21. The song held the No. 1 position on the ''Billboard'' Canadian Rock chart for six weeks straight. Big Wreck
Big Wreck are a Canadian-American Rock music, rock band formed by Ian Thornley and Brian Doherty in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1992. The band was rounded out with David Henning and Forrest Williams. They disbanded in 2002 and Ian Thornley pursued a solo career with his own band Thornley (band), Thornley. In 2010, Ian Thornley and Brian Doherty reunited for a cross-Canada tour, playing both Big Wreck and Thornley songs. ''Albatross'' is the third studio album by Canadian rock band Big Wreck. It is the band's first album since their 2001 release '' The Pleasure and the Greed'', and the first without original members Dave Henning and Forrest Williams. The album was released on March 6, 2012. In 2012, the album won the CASBY Award for "Favourite New Album". The album was nominated for Rock Album of the Year at the 2013 Juno Awards. In 2025, the band were selected as Canada's Record Store Day ambassadors for the year, and announced a deluxe anniversary reissue of the album, which saw its first ever vinyl pressing and features several previously unreleased songs. Anthem Records is an independent record label based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The company was formed in May 1977 by Ray Danniels and Vic Wilson with initial recording artists Rush, Max Webster, Liverpool and A Foot in Coldwater. The three members of Rush (Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson) became associate directors of Anthem. Background The label's predecessor was Moon Records. Ian Thornley
Ian Thornley (born July 21, 1972) is a Canadian rock guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. He is best known for his work with the bands Big Wreck and Thornley. Career Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Thornley studied jazz music at Boston's Berklee College of Music in the 1990s and formed the band Big Wreck in 1993 with classmates David Henning, Brian Doherty, and Forrest Williams. They soon relocated from Boston to Toronto and eventually signed a US record deal with Atlantic Records. Their 1997 debut album, '' In Loving Memory Of...'', was a significant hit that year on rock radio in both Canada and the US. The CASBY Awards were a Canadian awards ceremony for independent and alternative music, presented annually by Toronto, Ontario radio station CFNY, currently branded as 102.1 The Edge. CASBY is an acronym for Canadian Artists Selected By You. The awards were first presented in 1981 under the name U-Knows, a pun on Canada's mainstream Juno Awards.
