There is a sizeable Albanian Americans, Albanian population in New York City. Albanians are mostly concentrated in the Bronx, however, they can be found throughout the city. Staten Island also has a large Albanian community. The region in the Bronx is also known by the name Little Albania. In Staten Island, Albanians are concentrated in Dongan Hills, Tompkinsville, New Dorp, and Grant City. New York City is home to more than 100,000 Albanians according to the Albanian-American Society Foundation. Albanian Americans () are Americans of full or partial Albanian ancestry and heritage in the United States. They trace their ancestry to the territories with a large Albanian population in the Balkans and southern Europe, including Albania, Italy, Serbia, North Macedonia and Montenegro. They are adherents of different religions and are predominantly Muslims and Christians, while some are irreligious. In 2024, there were 224,000 counted people of Albanian descent living in the United States, mostly in the Northeast and the Great Lakes region. Mercy University (Mercy NY), previously known as Mercy College, is a private research university with a main campus in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and additional locations in Manhattan and the The Bronx, Bronx. Martin Shkreli (; born March 17, 1983) is an American investor, businessman and financial criminal. Shkreli is the co-founder of the hedge funds Elea Capital, MSMB Capital Management, and MSMB Healthcare, the co-founder and former CEO of pharmaceutical firms Retrophin and Turing Pharmaceuticals, and the former CEO of start-up software company Gödel Systems, which he founded in August 2016. In September 2015, Shkreli was widely criticized when Turing obtained the manufacturing license for the antiparasitic drug Daraprim and raised its price to insurance companies from $13.50 to $750.00 (USD) per pill. Zef J. Mustafa is a former Albanian-American mobster associated with the Gambino crime family. Early life Mustafa moved to the United States from Albania with his parents as an infant in 1962 to escape Enver Hoxha's Communist regime. When he was two years old, his mother died. His father died when he was 11. He was then placed in an orphanage, but eventually ran away and dropped out of school in the sixth grade. Mark Gjonaj ( ; born December 1968) is an American politician who served in the New York City Council from the 13th district from 2018 to 2021. Labinot Gashi (; born October 4, 1989), known mononymously as Gashi (stylised as GASHI), is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. Biography Labinot Gashi was born in Tripoli, Libya, on October 4, 1989, to ethnic Albanian parents from Kosovo. Ridgewood, Queens
Ridgewood is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. It borders the Queens neighborhoods of Maspeth to the north, Middle Village to the east, and Glendale to the southeast, as well as the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bushwick to the southwest and East Williamsburg to the west. Historically, the neighborhood straddled the Queens-Brooklyn boundary. The etymology of Ridgewood's name is disputed, but it may have referred to Ridgewood Reservoir, the local geography, or a road.
