Alastair Ardoch Morrison
Afferbeck Lauder was the pseudonym used by Alistair Ardoch Morrison (21 September 1911 – 15 March 1998), an Australian graphic artist and author who in the 1960s documented Strine in the song "With Air Chew" and a series of books beginning with ''Let Stalk Strine'' (Ure Smith, Sydney, Australia, 1965). Morrison illustrated the books and also used the pseudonym Al Terego. ''Let Stalk Strine'' was followed by ''Nose Tone Unturned'' (1967), ''Fraffly Well Spoken'' (1968), and ''Fraffly Suite'' (1969). The first two presented Australian written phonetically to appear as another language, the next two lampooned the clipped, almost strangled variety of upper-class English speech in the same way. The titles, and the author pseudonym, are all examples in themselves (Afferbeck Lauder = alphabetical order). Alasdair Morrison (politician)
Alasdair Morrison (Gaelic: ''Alasdair Moireasdan'') (born 18 November 1968 in Stornoway) is a Scottish Labour politician. He was the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Western Isles constituency from 1999 to 2007. Morrison was educated at Paible School, North Uist, and the Nicolson Institute, Isle of Lewis. News career He worked for the BBC in Inverness, Glasgow and Stornoway. He was employed as a news reporter and contributed to television and radio news programmes in both Gaelic and English. Until 1999, he was the Editor of the Gaelic newspaper, ''An Gàidheal Ùr''. In 2008 he was appointed as the chairman of MG Alba. Political career At the May 1999 election to the 1st Scottish Parliament, Morrison was elected as the MSP for the Western Isles. Alasdair Morrison is a Hong Kong businessman. Early life Morrison was born in Scotland in 1948 and educated at Eton and Cambridge, the son of a former Church of Scotland British Army chaplain. Career He joined Jardines in 1971 as a management trainee selling cargo space. He was promoted to general manager of Jardine Industries in 1975. In 1980, he became a general manager for Jardines Philippines. Morrison was appointed a general manager based in Europe in 1982 and appointed an assistant director based in Hong Kong in 1983. He became a member of the Asia Pacific Regional Board in 1987 and became managing director of property giant Hongkong Land in 1988. In 1994, Morrison succeeded Nigel Rich as managing director or quaintly known as 'tai-pan', of Jardine Matheson Holdings. As 'tai-pan' of Jardines, he presided over the delisting of the company from the Hong Kong stock exchange, Hang Seng Index.
