Alan Mikhail
Alan Mikhail (born 1979) is an American historian who is a professor of history at Yale University. His work centers on the history of the Ottoman Empire. Education Mikhail graduated in History and Chemistry from Rice University in 2001, and received his MA in history from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003. His PhD was conferred from the same university in 2008. His thesis ''The Nature of Ottoman Egypt: Irrigation, Environment, and Bureaucracy in the Long Eighteenth Century'' was awarded the Malcolm H. Kerr Dissertation Award in the Social Sciences (2009) by Middle East Studies Association of North America (MESA). Career He served as a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University for two years, before becoming an assistant professor of history at Yale University in 2010. Caroline Finkel is a British historian and writer based in Turkey; she has a doctorate in Ottoman history from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Publications Her book ''Osman's Dream, History of the Ottoman Empire 1300-1923'' was published by John Murray in England in 2005, and by Basic Books in the United States (). A Greek translation appeared in 2007, Dutch in 2008, and Russian in 2010. The Turkish edition, ''Rüyadan İmparatorluğa: Osmanlı'' (2007) is in its fourth printing. National Archives Of Egypt
The National Archives of Egypt are among the oldest in the world, for while the National Archives of France were established in 1794 and the Public Record Office, London, wasn't established until 1838, the National Archives were founded in Cairo in 1828. It dates, therefore, to the 19th century when Mohammed Ali Pasha constructed a place in the Cairo Citadel to preserve official records and named it Daftarkhana (House of Documentation). Sanjay Subrahmanyam (born 21 May 1961) is a historian who specialises in the early modern period and in Connected History. He is the author of several books and publications. He holds the Irving and Jean Stone Endowed Chair in Social Sciences at UCLA which he joined in 2004. Background and education Sanjay Subramanyam is the son of K. Subrahmanyam and his wife Sulochana. Cemal Kafadar (born 1954) is Professor of History and the Vehbi Koç Professor of Turkish Studies in the Harvard University Department of History. He is an honorary member of the Turkish Historical Society. Kafadar graduated from Robert College, then Hamilton College, and received his PhD from the McGill University Institute of Islamic Studies in 1987 and taught for two years in Princeton's Near Eastern Studies department before going to Harvard. Cornell Fleischer is an American historian who is the Kanuni Suleyman Professor of Ottoman and Modern Turkish Studies at the University of Chicago. Education and career Fleischer received his PhD from Princeton University in 1982. After leaving Princeton, Fleischer held teaching posts at Washington University in St. Louis and the Ohio State University. He published his dissertation as his only book in 1986.
