Alaa Al-Siddiq
Alaa Al-Siddiq (; 18 June 1988 – 19 June 2021) was a UK-based Emirati poet and a prominent human rights activist. Education Born in Sharjah to an educated and religious family, Alaa received a bachelor's degree in Shariah from the University of Sharjah in 2010, graduating with first class honors. She was the president of the Emirates National Student Union between 2007 and 2008. In the context of the Arab Spring#United Arab Emirates (2011), 2011 Arab Spring, Alaa had begun creating a youth petition group made up of fellow students and would have frequent meetups both in person and online to discuss human rights issues and what they can do to improve the lives of other Emirates. Sharjah (; ', Gulf Arabic: ''aš-Šārja'') is the List of cities in the United Arab Emirates, third-most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, after Dubai and Abu Dhabi. NSO Group Technologies (NSO standing for Niv, Shalev and Omri, the names of the company's founders) is an Israeli cyber-intelligence firm primarily known for its proprietary spyware Pegasus, which is capable of remote zero-click surveillance of smartphones. It employed almost 500 people as of 2017. NSO claims that it provides authorized governments with technology that helps them combat terror and crime. Omar Abdulaziz Al- Zahrani () is a Saudi Arabian dissident video blogger and activist living in exile in Montreal, Canada. As recounted in the film '' The Dissident'' (2020), he was close friends and worked with Jamal Khashoggi, dissident Saudi journalist assassinated by Saudi government agents at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. Jamal Ahmad Hamza Khashoggi (13 October 1958 – 2 October 2018) was a Saudi journalist, Saudi dissidents, dissident, author, columnist for ''Middle East Eye'' and ''The Washington Post'', and a general manager and editor-in-chief of Al-Arab News Channel who Assassination of Jamal Khashoggi, was assassinated at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October 2018 by agents of the Saudi government at the behest of Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Gulf Center For Human Rights
The Gulf Centre for Human Rights (GCHR; ) is an independent non-profit charity that defends human rights among Middle Eastern states including, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen, UAE, Oman, Iran, Qatar, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, and Lebanon. The GCHR is funded by the Sigrid Rausing Trust. Its vision is "To develop and protect a sustainable network of human rights defenders in the Gulf region." They are based in Lebanon.
