Al Bayda Offensive
The Al Bayda offensive began in late July 2020 with the restart of military operations by Houthis forces in Al Bayda Governorate, during the Yemeni Civil War (2014–present), Second Yemeni Civil War against forces of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Al-Qaeda in Yemen, the Islamic State in Yemen and military forces loyal to the Cabinet of Yemen, Government of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Al-Hadi. Prelude In early 2020, Houthi forces were achieving territorial gains in 2020 al-Jawf offensive, al-Jawf Governorate and Ma'rib Campaign#2020, Marib along the main highway that links those governorates, with the aim of controlling the Bayda–Marib axis. The M47 Dragon, known as the FGM-77 during development, is an American Shoulder-launched missile weapon, shoulder-fired, man-portable anti-tank guided missile system. It was phased out of U.S. military service in 2001, in favor of the newer FGM-148 Javelin system. The M47 Dragon uses a Wire-guided missile, wire-guidance system in concert with a high explosive anti-tank warhead and was capable of defeating Armoured fighting vehicle, armored vehicles, fortified bunkers, Tank, main battle tanks, and other hardened targets. While it was primarily created to defeat the Soviet Union's T-55, T-62, and T-72 tanks, it saw use well into the 1990s, seeing action in the Persian Gulf War.
